Butanoic acid plays a significant role in the maintenance of mucosal health and is the preferred energy substrate for the cells in the colon. Here, butanoic acid was selectively conjugated to the secondary hydroxyl group of β -cyclodextrin through ester bond using sodium hydride as the deprotonation reagent. The preliminary release behaviors of butanoic acid in rat gastrointestinal tract conten...
Adding β-glycosidase into grape wine for enhancing aroma was investigated using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and Kramer sensory evaluation. Compared with the extract from control wines, the extract from enzyme-treated wines increased more aromatic compounds using steam distillation extraction (SDE) and GC-MS analyses. Theses aromatic compounds were as follows: 3-methyl-1-butanol...
In the crystal structure of the title compound, C(13)H(16)O(3), dimers are formed due to inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonding. There exists an intra-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen bond which forms a five-membered ring. There is also present a C-H⋯π inter-action between a methyl CH group of an ethyl group and the centroid of the aromatic ring.
The synthesis and spectroscopic characterization of the glutaric acid-amide derivative, 2,4-Cl2C6H3N(H)C(=O)(CH2)3C(=O)OH (1), are described. X-ray crystal structure determination (1) shows backbone molecule to be kinked about methylene-C–N(amide) bond as seen in C(p)–N–C(m)–C(m) torsion angle ?157.0(2)°; m = methylene p phenyl. An additional twist is noted between amide phenyl groups reflected...
Analytical measurements of odorants in combination with odor threshold values is an alternative to sensory measurements that can be used to evaluate abatement technologies for pig production facilities. The purpose of the present study was to estimate odor threshold values for key odorants found in pig house air. A new method was applied where an olfactometer was used to dilute the sample air a...
Volatile short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) in synovial fluid from 80 patients were quantified by gas-liquid chromatography (GLC). Characteristic patterns of volatile SCFA could not be associated with septic, nonseptic inflammatory, or noninflammatory groups. Mean concentrations of pentanoic and hexanoic acids were similar in all groups studied. In the septic arthritis group 3 of 4 patients with ac...
