An electrode system to study the mechanism of fine microgram powder sulfide mineral dissolution was developed by using a relatively simple method that enables the attachment of micrograms of fine powder to a platinum plate surface. This system yields highly reproducible results and is sensitive compared with conventional electrode systems for various sulfide minerals such as pyrite, chalcopyrit...

The microbiological oxidation of synthetic chalcocite and covellite has been investigated using an adapted strain of Thiobacillus ferrooxidans. Biodegradation of chalcocite was found to be 90 to 100% and that of covellite 45 to 60%. Optimum conditions for the oxidation of chalcocite were: pH, 1.7 to 2.3; temperature, 35 C; and ferric iron concentration in the range of 0.004 to 0.01 M. For covel...

Adsorption of water on sulfide surfaces and natural floatability of sulfide minerals were studied using density functional theory (DFT) method. All computational models were built in a vacuum environment to eliminate the effects of oxygen and other factors. H2O molecule prefers to stay with pyrite and sphalerite surfaces rather than water, whereas for galena, chalcocite, stibnite, and molybdeni...

Supergene oxidation-leaching and secondary sulfide enrichment in the SarCheshmeh porphyry Cu-Mo deposit generated a supergene profile to depths of 20 to 80 meters with oxide ore reserve about 22 Mt. @1.08% Cu and sulfides ore [email protected]% Cu. Geochemical distribution and behavior of trace metals associated with Cu namely Mo, Au, and Ag in the supergene profile of the SarCheshmeh were po...

We examined the structural properties of copper sulfide films as a function of the sulfurization time of 70-nm-thick Cu films. Copper sulfide films with various phases such as mixed metallic Cu-chalcocite, chalcocite, roxbyite, and covellite phases were formed with increasing sulfurization time. To evaluate the structural stability of various films, all the films were exposed to the ambient atm...

Copper sulfide is a promising p-type inorganic semiconductor for optoelectronic devices such as solar cells, due its small band gap energy and its electrical properties. In this work nanocrystalline copper sulfide (Cu x S), with two stoichiometric ratios (x = 2, 1.8) was obtained by one-pot synthesis at 220, 230, 240 and 260 °C in an organic solvent and amorphous Cu x S was obtained in aqueous ...

The study and development of new sustainable mining methods to exploit low-grade ores secondary metallic resources are essential meet global demand contribute caring for the environment. Copper is one most widely used metals chalcocite main sulfide this metal. Therefore, copper recovery from chalcocite-dominant minerals could have a great impact on industry. In study, we assess at bench scale f...

Atomic force microscopy (AFM) has been applied to study the adsorption morphology of various collectors, i.e., potassium ethyl xanthate (KEX) and amyl (PAX) Cytec Aerofloat 238 (sodium dibutyl dithiophosphate), on chalcocite in situ aqueous solutions. The AFM images show that all these collectors adsorb strongly chalcocite. Xanthate adsorbs mainly form insoluble cuprous (CuX), which binds with ...

Chalcocite (Cu2S) has been deposited via pulsed chemical vapor deposition (PCVD) into a porous TiO2 matrix using hydrogen sulfide and a metal-organic precursor. The precursor used is similar to the more common Cu(hfac)(tmvs) precursor, but it is fluorine free and exhibits increased thermal stability. The simultaneous exposure of the substrate to the copper precursor and hydrogen sulfide resulte...
