Background : Improvements in "embryo in vitro cultures" provide novel possibilities in the treatment of infertility. To evaluate the quality of culture media, successful development of embryos beyond the growth block phase, is a useful criteria. Coculture is a newly developed technique that could optimize the culture media environment. During the present study we have evaluated the effects of c...

Standard isolation of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) requires 5 to 20 ml of blood, and the centrifugal separation of PBMC is expensive and time-consuming. Whole-blood coculture techniques use small sample volumes, do not require centrifugation, and allow measurement of the total viral burden in peripheral circulation. We compared the r...

A nonaxenic unialgal culture of Limnothrix sp. strain P13C2 was obtained through multiple subculturing of an inoculum obtained from a tropical freshwater lake. Here, we report the genome of P13C2 of 4.6 Mbp, extracted from the metagenome of this coculture.

Interactions between different cell types play critical roles in normal development and disease, but remain challenging to analyse. Here, a co-culture system is described that overcomes many of the limitations of existing methods, is simple to construct and modify, and is compatible with standard cellular and molecular assays.

Micropatterning strategies, which enable control over cell and tissue architecture in vitro, have emerged as powerful platforms for modelling tissue microenvironments at different scales and complexities. Here, we provide an overview of popular micropatterning techniques, along with detailed descriptions, to guide new users through the decision making process of which micropatterning procedure ...

The microalgal division Haptophyta uses a range of nutritional sourcing, including mixotrophy. The genome of a member of this taxon, Chrysochromulina tobin, suggests that interactions with its bacterial cohort are critical for C. tobin physiology. Here, we report the genomes of eight bacterial species in coculture with C. tobin.
