This paper deals with a multi-agent-based interval type-2 fuzzy (IT2F) expert systemfor scheduling steel continuous casting. Continuous caster scheduling is a complex and extensiveprocess that needs expert staff. In this study, a distributed multi-agent-based structure is proposed as asolution. The agents used herein can cooperate with each other via various communication protocols. To facilitat...

We define and solve a scheduling problem for operating the continuous steel slab caster which converts molten steel into slabs. The nature of our problem has an interesting connection to a special class of graphs known as interval graphs. We show that our problem can be seen as a variant of the clique partitioning problem defined on interval graphs and develop an optimal algorithm for it.

Real world combinatorial optimization problems such as scheduling are typically too complex to solve with exact methods. Additionally, the problems often have to observe vaguely speci ed constraints of di erent importance, the available data may be uncertain, and compromises between antagonistic criteria may be necessary. We present a combination of approximate reasoning based constraints and i...

In many production processes real time information may be obtained from process control computers and other monitoring systems, but most existing scheduling models are unable to use this information to effectively influence scheduling decisions in real time. In this paper we develop a general framework for using real time information to improve scheduling decisions, which allows us to trade off...

This paper establishes the models of the steelmaking continuous casting (SCC) process, and proposed the improved algorithms for this problem. The simulation results of a computerized scheduling system are also given to prove the model. The SCC process scheduling problem is very difficult to get a good performance solution in practice. The scheduling of the SCC process requires that each cast pl...

Real-world scheduling is decision making under vague constraints of diierent importance, often using uncertain data, where compromises between antagonistic criteria are allowed. We explain in theory and by detailed examples a new combination of fuzzy set based constraints and repair based heuristics that help to model these scheduling problems. We simplify the mathematics needed for a method of...

In steelmaking and continuous casting (SMCC) production process, converter fault can lead to unexpected changes to the pre-specified converter-continuous caster production mode so that the original scheduling plan becomes unrealizable. In this paper, the dynamic scheduling problem in response to converter fault is firstly analyzed. This is then followed by the establishment of a novel multi-obj...

Accurate determination of the position of final solidification point or crater end at ArcelorMittal Dofasco’s No. 2 Continuous Caster (CC) is essential for maximizing both casting speed and equipment utilization. The caster is equipped with one 900-mm long, straight, water-cooled copper mold, and produces 218-mm thick slabs with a maximum width of ~1,600 mm. The casting speed range at the caste...
