Assessment of the flammability of ornamental vegetation (particularly hedges) planted around houses is necessary in light of the increasing urbanization of the wildland-urban interfaces (WUIs) and the high fire occurrence in such areas. The structure and flammability of seven of the species most frequently planted as hedges in Provence (southeastern France) were studied at particle level. Spati...

Hesperocyparis (Cupressus) goveniana and putative Cupressus goveniana subsp. gibsonensis plus H. pygmaea were analyzed by Inter-Simple Sequence Repeats (ISSRs). The ISSRs analyses support the continued recognition H. pygmaea and H. goveniana, but the recognition of Cupressus goveniana subsp. gibsonensis Silba was not supported. Phytologia 91(2):277-286 (August, 2009).

A new vagrant species of phyllocoptine mites, Leipothrix nagyi n. sp . collected from Zinnia elegans (Asteraceae) is described and illustrated Hungary. Further three eriophyoid were recorded for the first time in Hungary, viz. Aceria hippophaena (Nalepa, 1898) found on Hippophaë rhamnoides, Epitrimerus cupressi (Keifer, 1939) Cupressus sempervirens tanaceti Boczek et Davis, 1984 associated with...

Five Hesperocyparis (Cupressus) abramsiana groves were analyzed by Inter-Simple Sequence Repeats (ISSRs). ISSRs analyses revealed geographical differentiation among the groves (= Silba's subspecies) with the Butano Ridge grove being the most distinct in both ISSRs and terpenoids. Combined ISSR and terpenoid data support the recognition of Hesperocyparis. abramsiana var. abramsiana and Hesperocy...

A new species of conifer was recently discovered in northern Vietnam. In a preliminary phylogenetic analysis of morphological data a possible sister species, Chamaecyparis nootkatensis (D. Don) Spach, was identified; however, because of the presumed phylogenetic remoteness of these two species to the remainder of the Cupressaceae, a new genus-Xanthocyparis-was described to accommodate both spec...

Abnormal' cones found irt Cupressus sempervirens include bisexual cones and double female and male cones. They are very infrequent, but there are individual trees ~th a tendency· to produce· ~\Jch cones. We, suggest that these cones reflect changes in normal hohnonal balance. keY, words: Cupressus sempervirens, bisexilal con~s, cones.

Phylogenetic comparisons of three nuclear DNA gene regions (nrDNA(ITS), 4-coumarate: CoA ligase, abscisic acid-insensitive 3) and a chloroplast region (petN-psbM) show that the Western Hemisphere cypresses (Hesperocyparis) is a well-supported clade quite separated from the Eastern Hemisphere cypresses (Cupressus). Based on these new data and previous data, a new genus, Hesperocyparis, is erecte...
