Various parasite species were found in Carassius carassius including Diplostomum spathaceum, Dactylogyrus sp.,Gyrodactylus sp. Ichthyophthirius multifiliis and Trichodinia sp . They were found in four rivers in West Azerbaijan Province (North-Western Iran) . A total of 207 live Carassius carassius from four rivers including Aras (72) Zariyneh (42) Nazlo (58) and Barandoz (35) were studied. Pa...

Individuals of free-living organisms are often infected simultaneously by a community of parasites. If the co-infecting parasites interact, then this can add significantly to the diversity of host genotypexparasite genotype interactions. However, interactions between parasite species are usually not examined considering potential variation in interactions between different strain combinations o...

The toxicity of cadmium and zinc at concentrations ranging from 0.1 to 100 microg/l was investigated against the activity of Diplostomum spathaceum (Rudolphi, 1819) cercariae. Over a 24 h exposure period a significant reduction in cercarial activity occurred in solutions of cadmium, zinc, and a mixture of cadmium and zinc at all concentrations. Reduced cercarial activity also occurred in all to...

One of the most complex and least understood transmission strategies displayed by pathogenic parasites is that of manipulation of host behaviour. A wide variety of parasites alter their host's behaviour, including species of medical and veterinary importance, such as Diplostomum spathaceum, Echinococcus spp. and Toxoplasma gondii. The manipulative ability of these parasites has implications for...

in the present investigation a total of six parasite species, some eye-specific and others non-organ specific parasites were found in the eyes of 48 examined fish species, collected from fresh and brackish waters of iran during 2004-2006. ichthyophthirius multifiliis  was isolated from the external surface of the eyes of oncorhynchus mykiss, gyrodactylus stankovici from cyprinus carpio and lern...

The transmission dynamics of the cercariae of Diplostomum spathaceum were investigated under laboratory conditions using cercariae collected from naturally infected Lymnaea stagnalis. Cercariae were kept in a constant temperature of 20 degrees C and the survival and infectivity to naïve young rainbow trout recorded at 3-h intervals until few cercariae were alive. Mortality initially remained co...

Diplostomum spathaceum is a digenean parasite with an indirect life cycle. Its mature stage lives in gull's intestine, cercariae in snails (Lymnaeidae) liver and metacercariae stage in piscine, amphibian, and mammalian eyes. Notice that penetration of cercariae into skin and eye cause lesions which cause susceptibility to secondary infections, appetite loss due to infections, blurry vision, and...
