Three indirect techniques for index flood estimation are analysed in order to evaluate their applicability and effectiveness. These indirect techniques, based on both statistical and conceptual approaches, are applied to a set of 33 hydrometric stations, located in a large area in northern-central Italy. The results show that the statistical model, due to its flexible structure, has a better de...

The main problem in the operation of irrigation systems is to ensure accuracy and reliability measuring hydrometric parameters managing water resources facilities. When operating with pumping stations, it becomes necessary measure a set technological parameters, which can be divided into following groups by type: hydraulic (flow rate, fluid pressure, flow channel), units, linear-angular (channe...

The purpose of this study is to assess the ability of the artificial neural network (ANN) models in estimating river ice thickness using easy available climate data. A site specific ANN models were developed for two hydrometric stations at two rivers in Alberta (Canada). The ANN models were found to adequately estimate ice thickness. Ways to improve the performances of the ANN models are proposed.

In this work, spatial and temporal variations in the diversity (species richness and Simpson's Diversity Index) and abundance (indexed by the capture per unit effort--CPUE; total and for reproductive groups) of fish from three rivers (Baía, Ivinheima and Paraná) located in a floodplain of the Upper Paraná River basin were analyzed over a period of 20 years (1987-2007). In addition, we evaluated...
