Temperature measurement in microwave systems is essential for thermally driven processes, namely, catalytic reactions and ceramic sintering. Although, the application of direct thermometry methods, namely, thermocouples, have been commonly articulated in the available literature, however, contacted temperature measurement mechanisms have aroused concerns associated with the disruption of the el...

Manufacturing components of fiber-reinforced thermoplastics requires three steps: heating the matrix, forming and consolidation of the composite and terminal cooling the matrix. For the heating process a pre-determined temperature distribution through the layers and the thickness of the pre-consolidated sheets is recommended to enable forming mechanism. Thus, a design for the heating process fo...

Infrared to millimeter spectral energy distributions (SEDs) have been obtained for a random sample of 17 Palomar Green quasars. The observations were carried out between 4.8 and 200 μm with ISO and supplemented for ten sources with IRAM at 1.3 mm. Eight sources were detected in the far infrared for the first time. The SEDs provide evidence for considerable dust emission and do not support the e...

Context. Photoelectric heating is a dominant heating mechanism for many phases of the interstellar medium. We study this mechanism throughout the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). Aims. We aim to quantify the importance of the [C ii] cooling line and the photoelectric heating process of various environments in the LMC and to investigate which parameters control the extent of photoelectric heating. ...

We theoretically and numerically analyze thermal invisibility based on the concept of scattering cancellation and mantle cloaking. We show that a small object can be made completely invisible to heat diffusion waves, by tailoring the heat conductivity of the spherical shell enclosing the object. This means that the thermal scattering from the object is suppressed, and the heat flow outside the ...

Active infrared thermography has been used for the detection of sub surface defects in road materials. The step heating method was selected, and two different infrared cameras selected. Defects were detected with an heating phase as short as 60 seconds. Some images treatments were employed, and have been able to extract signal in spite of the porosity and of the high heterogeneity of a road mat...

The time-temperature effects of laser radiation exposure are investigated as a function of wavelength. Here, we report the thermal response of bulk tissue as a function of wavelength from 700 to 1064 nm. Additionally, Monte Carlo simulations were used to verify the thermal response measured and predict damage thresholds based on the response.
