The main purpose of this study was to introduce a new non-dichotomous scoring procedure for the multiple-choice test method, called Parledge. The research also aimed to determine Parledge characteristics through a psychometric study comparing it with the “Number Correct” and “Correction for Guessing” scoring methods. There were 35 students participating in the study who were given a vocabulary ...
The Balanced Inventory of Desirable Responding (BIDR; Paulhus, 1994) is a widely used instrument to measure the 2 components of social desirability: self-deceptive enhancement and impression management. With respect to scoring of the BIDR, Paulhus (1994) authorized 2 methods, namely continuous scoring (all answers on the continuous answer scale are counted) and dichotomous scoring (only extreme...
This study investigates differences in the partial scoring performance of examinees in elimination testing and conventional dichotomous scoring of multiple-choice tests implemented on a computer-based system. Elimination testing that uses the same set of multiple-choice items rewards examinees with partial knowledge over those who are simply guessing. This study provides a computer-based test a...

BACKGROUND Questionnaires are used routinely in clinical research to measure health status and quality of life. Questionnaire measurements are traditionally formally assessed by indices of reliability (the degree of measurement error) and validity (the extent to which the questionnaire measures what it is supposed to measure). Neither of these indices assesses the degree to which the questionna...
This paper describes procedures for estimating single-administration classification consistency and accuracy using the multinomial and compound multinomial models for tests with complex item scoring. Various classification consistency and accuracy indices are discussed. The procedures are illustrated using a real data set obtained from a test consisting of both polytomous and dichotomous items.
In view of native/nonnative language teacher dichotomy, different characteristics have been assigned to these 2 groups. The dichotomy has been the source of different actions and measures to clarify the positive and negative points of being (non)native teachers. In recent years, many researchers have revisited this dichotomy. The challenge to the dichotomy can be a source of motivation to explo...
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE To justify the summation of scores representing comprehensive activities of daily living (ADL) function, a Rasch analysis was performed to examine whether items of the Barthel Index (BI), assessing ADL, and items of the Frenchay Activities Index (FAI), assessing instrumental ADL, contribute jointly to a single, unidimensional construct in stroke patients living in the com...
Research results with regard to handedness and dyslexia have been ambiguous. The present study investigated the relationship between handedness and dyslexia in secondary school students based on genetic (Right-Shift) and hormonaldevelopmental theories of handedness. A total of 135 students (45 dyslexics and 70 ageand sex-matched controls) participated in the study. Handedness was defined accord...
