In [1] it was shown that there are very effective attacks leading to collisions for the hash function MD4 designed by R. Rivest [3]. A summary of the status of hash functions of the MD4-family with respect to collision-resistence can be found in [2] and [4]. However, attacking the one-wayness of a hash function is a much more demanding challenge, and in case of success it has much more devastat...
Naor and Yung show that a one-bit-compressing universal one-way hash function (UOWHF) can be constructed based on a one-way permutation. This construction can be iterated to build a UOWHF which compresses by "n bits, at the cost of "n invocations of the one-way permutation. We show that this construction is not far from optimal, in the following sense: there exists an oracle relative to which t...
Naor and Yung show that a one-bit-compressing universal one-way hash function (UOWHF) can be constructed based on a one-way permutation. This construction can be iterated to build a UOWHF which compresses by εn bits, at the cost of εn invocations of the one-way permutation. We show that this construction is not far from optimal, in the following sense: there exists an oracle relative to which t...
In this paper we present a new one-way function with collision resistance. The security of this function is based on the difficulty of solving a norm form equation. We prove that this function is collision resistant, so it can be used as a one-way hash function. We show that this construction probably provides a family of one-way functions.
Recently, Liaw et al. proposed a hash based electronic traveler’s check system. They claimed that their scheme is secure. However, after analyses, we found that their scheme is vulnerable to key compromise impersonation and parallel session attack. Further, we will improve their scheme to avoid such an attack.
In this paper we present a new scheme for constructing universal one-way hash functions that hash arbitrarily long messages out of universal one-way hash functions that hash fixed-length messages. The new construction is extremely simple and is also very efficient, yielding shorter keys than previously proposed composition constructions.
We propose a new infinite family of cryptographic hash functions, Edon–R, based on a recently defined candidate one-way function. Edon–R is a class of hash functions with variable output lengths. It is de fined using quasigroups and quasigroup string trans formations.
