Photoelectric dyes absorb light and convert photon energy to electric potentials. To test whether these dyes could be used for retinal prostheses, a simple in vitro screening system was developed. Retinal neurons were cultured from the eyes of chick embryos at the 10-day embryonic stage, at which time no retinal photoreceptor cells have yet developed. Intracellular calcium elevation was observe...

OBJECTIVE To compare rates of nuisance alarms and disconnection between ionization and photoelectric smoke alarms. DESIGN A prospective cohort study. SETTING Four Inupiat Eskimo villages in the Northwest Arctic Borough region of Alaska, 48 km (30 mi) above the Arctic Circle. SUBJECTS Households in 4 communities with similar populations, number of homes, mean income, size of household, and...

Context. Photoelectric heating is a dominant heating mechanism for many phases of the interstellar medium. We study this mechanism throughout the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). Aims. We aim to quantify the importance of the [C ii] cooling line and the photoelectric heating process of various environments in the LMC and to investigate which parameters control the extent of photoelectric heating. ...

To improve measurement precision and solve the question on projectile information extraction when projectile go through detection screen of photoelectric detection target, the wavelet analysis method was applied to process its information and look for its starting time in screen. The detection principle of photoelectric detection target was analyzed, the characteristic of wavelet analysis metho...

Recent years have seen growing interest in exploiting dualand multi-energy measurements in computed tomography (CT) in order to characterize material properties as well as object shape. Materials characterization is performed by decomposing the scene into constitutive basis functions, such as Compton scatter and photoelectric absorption functions. While well motivated physically, the joint reco...

Geant4 simulations were performed to determine electron binding energies in aluminum using two different implementation of the photoelectric effect: G4PotoElectricEffect and G4LowEnergyPhotoElectric. The incident photon energies used in the simulation were 20 eV, 100 eV, 1 keV and 2 keV. The binding energies of the knocked out electrons were calculated as a difference between photon incident en...

We calculate the long-range Vanderwaals force and the photoelectric cross section in a noncommutative set up. While we argue that non-commutativity effects could not be discerned for the Vanderwaals interactions, the result for the photoelectric effect shows deviation from the usual commutative one, which in principle can be used to put bounds on the space-space non-commutativity parameter.

How properties change as 1D nanomaterials reduce in length to 0D, that is, the properties of 0.5D nanomaterial, are studied via photoelectric changes in ZnO nanowires. The photoelectric property of this 0.5D nanomaterial changes significantly as the 3D nanoconfinement is reinforced. This finding can be expanded to more properties and materials to profoundly impact fields of nanoscience, nanodev...

introduction: the photoelectric attenuation coefficient of substances is known to depend upon the energy e of the photon and the effective atomic number of substances (zeff) as (zeff x /e y ).  no definitive values about these indices x, y are given in the literature. the index x is said to lie between, 3.0 and 4.0, while for ‘y’ different values have been assigned, between 3.0 and 4.0. methodo...
