Spontaneous damage to DNA as a result of deamination, oxidation and depurination is greatly accelerated at high temperatures. Hyperthermophilic microorganisms constantly exposed to temperatures exceeding 80 degrees C are endowed with powerful DNA repair mechanisms to maintain genome stability. Of particular interest is the processing of DNA lesions during replication, which can result in fixed ...

We previously reported that lagging-strand genes accumulate mutations faster than those encoded on the leading strand in Bacillus subtilis. Although we proposed that orientation-specific encounters between replication and transcription underlie this phenomenon, the mechanism leading to the increased mutagenesis of lagging-strand genes remained unknown. Here, we report that the transcription-dep...

The aim of this study was to examine the effect of catalyst doping on the performance of MgCl2. EtOH/TiCl4 catalyst system. In this regard, a series of undoped as well as FeCl3-doped catalysts was prepared and employed in 1-hexene polymerization. A modified catalyst containing 10 wt. % of FeCl3 dopant demonstrated the highest activity, with 32% activity increase compared to unmodified one, amon...

An amine bis(phenolate) dibenzyl titanium complex having a methoxy donor on a side arm leads, upon activation with tris(pentafluorophenyl)borane, to unique living properties in alpha-olefin polymerization: exceptionally high molecular weight poly(1-hexene) is obtained in a living fashion at room temperature, living polymerization of 1-hexene is obtained above room temperature, and block copolym...

Programming mechanisms in floating-gate non-volatile (EEPROM) standard-CMOS memories are briefly reviewed. A methodology to optimize the programming time in poly1-poly2 Fowler-Nordheim based structures is proposed. From design constraints, the optimum number of bumps and bootstrap capacitance value are obtained to maximize the programming speed for a given programming voltage.

The title compound, C(23)H(23)BrO(4), is an inter-mediate in the synthesis of fused heterocycles. In the title mol-ecule, the cyclo-hexene ring has a distorted half-chair conformation. The bromo-phenyl ring and the mean plane of the cyclo-hexene ring form a dihedral angle of 13.8 (3)°, whereas the benzene and cyclo-hexene rings are approximately perpendicular [88.44 (17)°]. There are only weak ...

Although the title mol-ecule, C(20)H(16)N(2)O(10), does not possess mol-ecular inversion symmetry, it lies on a crystallographic inversion centre which imposes disorder on the central cyclo-hexene ring. In addition, the cyclo-hexene ring has non-symmetry-related disorder over two sites, with the ratio of the major and minor components being 0.54:0.46. The overall effect is to produce four disor...

The cyclo-hexene ring in the title compound, C(15)H(18)INO(2), adopts a sofa conformation. The dihedral angle between the cyclo-hexene (through all ring atoms) and benzene rings is 63.3 (1)°. The mol-ecular conformation features an N-H⋯I short contact and the crystal packing features C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.
