The potential of grazing lands to sequester carbon must be understood to develop effective soil conservation measures and sustain livestock production. Our objective was to evaluate the effects of grazing on soil organic carbon (SOC), total nitrogen (TN), microbial biomass carbon (MBC) in Typical steppe and Desert steppe ecosystems, which are both important grassland resources for animal grazin...

Immobilized metal chelate affinity chromatography (IMAC) support was practiced for α -amylase immobilization. Poly(hydroxyethylmethacrylate-methacryloylamidotryptophan)-Ni [p(HEMA-MAT)-Ni ] nanospheres, average diameter 100 nm, were produced by surfactant free emulsion polymerization. Characterizations of p(HEMAMAT)-Ni nanospheres were carried out by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrosco...

Actinobacteria are the dominant taxa in Antarctic desert soils. Here, we describe the first draft genome of a member of the genus Williamsia (strain D3) isolated from Antarctic soil. The genome of this psychrotolerant bacterium may help to elucidate crucial survival mechanisms for organisms inhabiting cold desert soil systems.

cloning and expression of the l-phenylalanine dehydrogenase gene, from b. sphaericus in e. coli were done. the gene was cloned in the vector pet16b and transformed into e. coli bl21 (de3). the functional form of the l-phenylalanine dehydrogenase enzyme was purified by affinity purification techniques, taking advantage of the ability of this enzyme to bind to the nucleotide site affinity dye, re...

The phylogenetic relationships of 17 Bacillus strains isolated from plants and soil were determined from partial sequences of genes encoding 16S rRNA, gyraseA (gyrA) and the cheA histidine kinase. Five strains were closely related to Bacillus subtilis subsp. subtilis, three strains were more closely related to B. subtilis subsp. spizizeni and two strains were identified as B. mojavensis. The re...

Isolated Bacillus strains BA1 and BA2 were a good source of amylase as they also showed high amylolytic activity. Both showed a clear zone on starch agar plate of 4.0 & 4.2mm in diameter respectively. The strain BA1 and BA2 produce amount of amylolytic enzyme 0.908μ/ml and 0.802μ/ml after the incubation of 24 hours at 37±2 0 C respectively. As the time of incubation increase the amylolytic acti...

The role of the C-terminal Leu300 in maintaining thermal stability of the neutral protease of Bacillus subtilis was investigated. From model building studies based on the three-dimensional structure of thermolysin, the neutral protease of B. thermoproteolyticus, it was concluded that this residue is located in a hydrophobic pocket composed of residues located in the C-terminal and the middle do...

OBJECTIVE To study the impacts of abundance of woodlice, termites, and mites on some functional aspects of soil in order to elucidate the specific role of soil fauna in improving soil fertility in desert. METHODS Fauna-rich sites were selected as experimental sites and adjacent areas were taken as control. Soil samples were collected from both sites. Soil respiration was measured at both site...
