The classical problem of heat conduction in one dimension on a composite ring is examined. The problem is formulated using the heat equation with periodic boundary conditions. We provide an explicit solution of this problem using the Method of Fokas. The location of the interfaces is known, but neither temperature nor heat flux are prescribed there. Instead, the physical assumption of continuit...

It is proved that the scattering amplitude known at a fixed frequency, a fixed direction of the incident plane wave and all directions of the scattered wave in a solid angle, however small, determine uniquely the shape of a strictly convex obstacle with a smooth but not analytic boundary on which the Dirichlet boundary condition is assumed.

Numerical minimization of the euclidean action of the two-dimensional abelian Higgs model is used to construct periodic instantons, the euclidean field configurations with two turning points describing transitions between the vicinities of topologically distinct vacua. Periodic instantons are found at any energy (up to the sphaleron energy Esp h ) and for a wide range of parameters of the theor...

This study is concerned with the numerical analysis, formulation, programming and computation of steady, 3D conservation equations of reacting laminar flow heat and mass transfer in ducts of arbitrary cross-sections. The non-orthogonal boundary-fitted coordinate transformation method is applied to the Cartesian form of overall-continuity, momenta, energy and species-continuity equations, parabo...

I present a calculation of the interfacial width within the capillary wave (Gaussian) approximation. The calculation is done on rectangular lattices of size L1 times L2, with periodic boundary conditions.

The nonlinear differential equation x" = f(t, x(t)), f being 22T-periodic in t, is considered for the existence of 27T-periodic solutions. The equation is reduced to an equivalent system of two Hammerstein equations. The case of nonlinear perturbation at resonance is also discussed.

Let Wn be a random walk on the locally free group with m generators subject to periodic boundary conditions, and let T (Wn) be the set of removable elements. We prove that limn→∞ E(#T (Wn)) m ≤ 0.32893 for m ≥ 4. This result disproves a conjecture (due to Vershik et. al. [3]) that the limit tends to 1 3 as m → ∞.

In this paper, we consider one-dimensional attractor of a non-autonomous second order strongly damped lattice system with periodic driving force under Neumann boundary condition or periodic boundary condition. We obtain the existence of a global attractor and prove this attractor is homeomorphic to the circle.

In this paper we prove a Hölder and Lipschitz stability estimates of determining the residual stress by a single pair of observations from a part of the lateral boundary or from the whole boundary. These estimates imply first uniqueness results for determination of residual stress from few boundary measurements.

In this paper we prove existence results for extremal solutions of the first order discontinuous impulsive differential inclusions with periodic boundary conditions and impulses at the fixed times under certain monotonicity conditions of the multi-valued functions.
