Force probe techniques such as atomic force microscopy can directly measure the force required to rupture single biological ligand receptor bonds. Such forces are related to the energy landscape of these weak, noncovalent biological interactions. We report unbinding force measurements between complementary strands of DNA as a function of temperature. Our measurements emphasize the entropic cont...

The scaling limit for a class of interacting superprocesses and the associated singular, degenerate stochastic partial differential equation (SDSPDE) are investigated. It is proved that the scaling limit is a coalescing, purely-atomic-measure-valued process which is the unique strong solution of a reconstructed, associated SDSPDE.

Maximal and atomic Hardy spaces Hp and H A, 0 < p ≤ 1, are considered in the setting of a doubling metric measure space in the presence of a non-negative self-adjoint operator whose heat kernel has Gaussian localization and the Markov property. It is shown that Hp = H A with equivalent norms.

We report a study of atomic motion in time-dependent optical potentials. We measure momentum transfer in parameter regimes for which the classical dynamics are chaotic, and observe the quantum suppression of chaos by dynamical localization. The high degree of control over the experimental parameters enables detailed comparisons with theoretical predictions, and opens new avenues for investigati...

The density-density correlation profiles obtained superimposing absorption images from atomic clouds freely expanding after the release of the confining optical lattice can be theoretically described in terms of a generalized quantum measure based on coherentlike states. We show that the corresponding density patterns differ in a testable way from those computed using standard many-body mean va...

Atomic clocks, masers, and other precision oscillators are likely to be placed on the International Space Station and other satellites in the future. These instruments will have the potential to measure Lorentz-violation coefficients, and in particular may provide access to parts of the Lorentz-violation coefficient space at levels not accessible with Earth-based experiments. The basic issues a...

We propose to measure the parity violating (PV) asymmetry in H deep inelastic scattering (DIS) at and (GeV/ ) at . The measurements will constrain the poorly known effective coupling constant combination ( ). Assuming the Standard Model values of "! ! $# , (tested separately by combining the Cs atomic parity violation (APV) experiments and the future Qweak experiment), the expected uncertainty is

Individual biomolecular binding events were recorded in situ by combining time-lapse atomic force microscopy and DNA origami. Single streptavidin molecules bound to specifically biotinyated DNA origami were simply counted as a function of time to obtain a direct measure of the binding rate.

Clock-comparison experiments using a satellite platform can give Planckscale sensitivity to many parameters for Lorentz and CPT violation that are difficult to measure on Earth. A discussion of the theoretical framework for such tests is given, with emphasis on comparisons of output frequencies of atomic clocks and of electromagnetic cavity oscillators.
