Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) emerged as an important technology with the ability to improve the efficiency and accuracy of object tracking. It has brought cost savings and added value to a wide variety of fields. Retail inventory management system is one of the beneficial fields. In order to better satisfy customers and to improve profit, retailers demand high accuracy in inventory man...

The EOQ and EPQ models with linear and fixed backorder costs are newly analyzed and all formulae are proven using only algebra. Two cases are identified, where backorders should and should not be allowed. The results are shown to include several known special cases. r 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

We consider acyclic supply chains under the full backorder assumption and reveal several simple yet unique properties. Most interestingly, we identify conditions for the best dedicated stocking policy to outperform the best shared stocking policy, and for an acyclic supply chain to be decomposable into a simpler network (e.g., tree). We specify ways to decompose them.

We study the value of component commonality in assemble-to-order systems under no-holdback allocation rules. We prove that the total product backorder and on-hand component inventory decrease with probability one as the degree of commonality increases; however, the average cost may not decrease unless a certain cost symmetric condition is imposed. © 2014 Elsevier B.V. For the total cost of the inventory without backorder model, if we fuzzify the order quantity, the total demand, the cost of storing and the cost of placing an order as fuzzy numbers then we can obtain the fuzzy total cost. In this paper, we apply the signed distance method to defuzzify the fuzzy total cost and then solve the optimal order quantity.

We consider the optimal control of a production inventory-system with a single product and two customer classes where items are produced one unit at a time. Upon arrival, customer orders can be fulfilled from existing inventory, if there is any, backordered, or rejected. The two classes are differentiated by their backorder and lost sales costs. At each decision epoch, we must determine whether...

We consider a dynamic inventory (production) model with general order (production) costs and excess demand that can be backordered or refused by the rm. A unit backordered incurs a backorder cost, a unit refused incurs a lost sales charge. Endogenizing the sales decision is necessary in the presence of general convex order costs so that the rm is not forced to backorder a unit whose subsequent ...

We study the optimal policy for a serial inventory system under periodic review when excess demand at the retailer (i.e., the most downstream stage) is lost. We focus on “high service level environments” (i.e., systems where the cost of a lost sale is high compared to inventory holding costs). These environments are typical of products whose margins are high relative to their holding costs. Whe...

inventory model,   backorder   buyer ,   vendor,   lot for lot policy In this paper, an inventory model for two-stage supply chain is investigated. A supply chain with single vendor and single buyer is considered. We assume that shortage as a backorder is allowed for the buyer and the vendor makes the production set up every time the buyer places an order and supplies on a lot for lot basis...
