This paper shows the load comparisons between the numerical simulation and the full-scale load measurement data. First part of this paper includes the comparisons of statistic load in terms of maximum, mean, and minimum values for the selected normal operation cases. The blade root bending moments and tower top bending moments are compared. Second part of this paper introduces the dynamic respo...

We study the conformational behavior in a plane of a comb copolymer molecule, consisting of a semiflexible backbone and rigid side chains interacting via a van der Waals potential. Using a mean-field approach, two different regimes are distinguished depending on the strength of the attraction between the side chains. In the weak attraction limit the side chains are oriented preferably perpendic...

Based on the small deflection beam theory, bending equation with axial tension of suspended pipe partially buried in the linear elastic soil is established. And the corresponding boundary conditions are given according to the stress and deformation characteristics of suspended section and buried section. Then deflection equation for the suspended section is deduced. Afterwards, the stress and c...

In order to solve the supporting problem in underground engineering with high stress, square steel confined concrete (SQCC) supporting method is adopted to enhance the control on surrounding rocks, and the control effect is remarkable. The commonly used cross section shapes of confined concrete arch are square and circular. At present, designers have no consensus on which kind is more proper. T...

Our primary objective was to validate the Bone Strength Index for compression (BSIC) by determining the amount of variance in failure load and stiffness that was explained by BSIC and bone properties at two distal sites in human cadaveric tibiae when tested in axial compression. Our secondary objective was to assess the variance in failure moment and flexural rigidity that was explained by bone...

Cnr2 is one of two cannabinoid receptors known to regulate bone metabolism. Here, we compared the whole bone properties of femora and tibiae from three-month-old Cnr2−/− mice with wild-type controls using a C57BL/6 background. Bending stiffness was measured by three-point bending. The elastic modulus, density and mineral content were measured using ultrasound, Archimedes’ principle and ashing. ...

Bending, in addition to compression, is recognized to be a common loading pattern in long bones in animals. However, due to the technical difficulty of measuring bone deformation in humans, our current understanding of bone loading patterns in humans is very limited. In the present study, we hypothesized that bending and torsion are important loading regimes in the human tibia. In vivo tibia se...

This paper addresses the bending behaviour of individual multi-filament yarns for use in textile forming analyses. Yarn specimens deform nonlinearly under their own weight in a cantilever configuration. A relation between the applied moment and the resulting curvature is established. Numerical simulations are performed to establish the contribution of shear rigidity to the deflection.

The importance of nonlinearities in material constitutive relations has long been appreciated in the continuum mechanics of macroscopic rods. Although the moment (torque) response to bending is almost universally linear for small deflection angles, many rod systems exhibit a high-curvature softening. The signature behavior of these rod systems is a kinking transition in which the bending is loc...
