Inspired by the seminal works of Khuller et al. (SIAM J. Comput. 25(2), 355–368 (1996)) and Chan (Discrete Geom. 32(2), 177–194 (2004)) we study bottleneck version Euclidean bounded-degree spanning tree problem. A is a whose largest edge-length minimum, degree-K minimum. Let $$\beta _K$$ be supremum ratio to tree, over all finite point sets in plane. It known that _5=1$$ , it easy verify _2\geq...

Traffic congestion is usually observed at the upper streams of bottlenecks like tunnels. Congestion appears as stop-and-go waves and high density uniform flow. We perform simulations of traffic flow with a bottleneck using the coupled map optimal velocity model. The bottleneck is expressed as a road segment with speed reduction. The emergence of stop-andgo waves depends on the speed reduction i...

We show that the minmax regret median of a tree can be found in O(n log n) time. This is obtained by a modification of Averbakh and Berman’s O(n log n)-time algorithm: We design a dynamic solution to their bottleneck subproblem of finding the middle of every root-leaf path in a tree.

We present a characterization of a useful class of skills based on a graphical representation of an agent’s interaction with its environment. Our characterization uses betweenness, a measure of centrality on graphs. It captures and generalizes (at least intuitively) the bottleneck concept, which has inspired many of the existing skill-discovery algorithms. Our characterization may be used direc...

In manufacturing systems, the term bottleneck refers to a component that limits the entire throughput of a system. A number of approaches have been attempted to find out the bottleneck. However, existing solutions have their own limitations, leaving the bottleneck identification still no trivial task. To address this issue, we study Job Shop Scheduling Problems (JSSP) with realistic extension t...

Before implementing a PDM-system within a company, the internal processes of product and process development and the information handled herein should be organized well. To enable this organization, one should be able to see the bottlenecks. Therefore the working methods and the documents involved should be made transparent. That is why the development processes of three automotive suppliers ar...
