In a recent commentary, Dennis and Valacich (1999) raise several issues concerning the effectiveness of electronic brainstorming (EBS) and conclude that, when brainstorming groups contain more than eight individuals, EBS technology is more effective than nominal brainstorming. The present paper offers several theoretical and empirical reasons to justify our disagreement with this conclusion.
