The climate change discussion in the framework of the Kyoto protocol has clearly emphasized the need for reliable methods to value projects targeted on reduction of greenhouse gases. Moreover, the recent carbon price development in the mandatory EU Emission Trading Scheme exhibits the insisting importance of accurate risk management when business is exposed to greenhouse gas emissions. In this ...

We report that nanoscale carbon particles (carbon dots) upon simple surface passivation are strongly photoluminescent in both solution and the solid state. The luminescence emission of the carbon dots is stable against photobleaching, and there is no blinking effect. These strongly emissive carbon dots may find applications similar to or beyond those of their widely pursued silicon counterparts.

We investigated the role of helium ambient gas on the dynamics of C2 species formation in laser-produced carbon plasma. The plasma was produced by focusing 1064 nm pulses from an Nd:YAG laser onto a carbon target. The emission from the C2 species was studied using optical emission spectroscopy, and spectrally resolved and integrated fast imaging. Our results indicate that the formation of C2 in...

Large hydropower project (LHP) is now the most important renewable and low-carbon source for electricity generation, carbon footprint calculation is crucial for it. We established an embodied carbon budget accounting system for LHP to calculate its actual carbon footprint. In additional to traditional carbon emission from plant construction, the accounting system included two new items in the c...

BACKGROUND The introduction of renewable jet fuel (RJF) is considered an important emission mitigation measure for the aviation industry. This study compares the well-to-wake (WtWa) greenhouse gas (GHG) emission performance of multiple RJF conversion pathways and explores the impact of different co-product allocation methods. The insights obtained in this study are of particular importance if R...

Carbon nanotube has good electrical properties and a high aspect ratio, which enable it to obtain a high current at a low voltage due to its high field. Due to the life and uniformity of their emission tips, carbon nanotube field emitters are hard to commercialize. A field emitter with a three-dimensional (3D) structure was fabricated in this study to overcome such problems. In the 3D-structure...

Traditionally, the emission of electrons from materials have been explained using either the Fowler– Nordheim emission mechanism where high electric fields are used to extract electrons from surfaces or using conventional thermal emission where high currents are used to ‘‘boil’’ off electrons to vacuum. In this letter, we propose an alternative mechanism for electron emission from highly compre...

global warming, as a consequence of greenhouse gases accumulation, has exerted significant impacts on biosphere. methane, a product of reduction processes of organic carbon in anaerobic conditions, is mainly emitted from paddy fields. the aim followed in this research is to evaluate the impact of midseason drainage on methane emission from paddy fields. the research was conducted with three tre...

global warming is one of the major concerns in environmental issues. its effects are being exposed faster than anticipated recently. it causes adverse ecological and socioeconomical effects. the 4th assessment report issued by the u. n.’s intergovernmental panel on climate change (ipcc) states that it is appropriate to define global warming was caused by greenhouse gases due to human activities...

Monodisperse polystyrene nanospheres with a mean diameter of 102 nm are photofragmented with 193 nm light in N2 at laser fluences from 1 to 20 J/cm2. Carbon atom fluorescence at 248 nm from the disintegration of the particles is used as a signature of the polystyrene. The normalized fluorescence signals are self-similar with an exponential decay lifetime of approximately 10 ns. At fluences abov...
