Since their discovery, the possibility of connecting carbon nanotubes together like water pipes has been an intriguing prospect for these hollow nanostructures. The serial joining of carbon nanotubes in a controlled manner offers a promising approach for the bottom-up engineering of nanotube structures--from simply increasing their aspect ratio to making integrated carbon nanotube devices. To d...

Bamboo-like carbon nanotubes are members of the carbon nanotubes (CNTs) family, whose structure is made up of separated hollow compartments and bamboo knots. Due to the peculiar structure of the CNTs species, the growth mechanism and related features have been widely investigated. Bamboo-like carbon nanotubes are widely applied in several fields, such as sensors, adsorbents, catalysts, and lith...

In this study, free vibration analysis of carbon nanotubes is investigated based on Timoshenko beam theory. Discrete singular convolution (DSC) method is used for free vibration problem of numerical solution of carbon nanotubes. Numerical results are presented and compared with that available in the literature. It is shown that reasonable accurate results are obtained. Keywords-Carbon Nanotubes...

this paper investigates the effect of different methods of carbon nanotubes distribution in a thin matrix on static and dynamic behavior of the nanocomposite. five different symmetric patterns of distribution are considered, including four parabolic patterns and a linear one. for each pattern, the effective mechanical properties of the resultant nanocomposite are calculated using the rule of mi...

Synthesis of clean double-walled carbon nanotubes by a catalytic chemical vapour deposition (CCVD) method is reported; the catalyst is a Mg(1 - x)Co(x)O solid solution containing additions of Mo oxide; this MgO-based catalyst can be easily removed, leading to gram-scale amounts of clean carbon nanotubes, 77% of which are double-walled carbon nanotubes.

introduction: the therapeutic potential of anandamide (aea) for the neurological disorders may be negatively affected by its short half-life or poor solubility. the superior properties of carbon nanotubes (cnts) for controlled drug delivery, prompted us to design aea-cnts complex and assess its effect in in vitro model of ischemic stroke. methods: in this experimental study, a multi-walled cnts...

in this study, multi wall carbon nanotubes (mwcnts) were synthesized by chemical vapor deposition (cvd) method using two different catalysts (fe nanoparticles) and (ni nanoparticles) with  two different substrates: quartz and alumina. acetylene gas was used as a carbon source and argon as a carrier gas at different temperatures and different times to study the effects of these parameters on cnt...

An effective and versatile method for tube-length-specific functionalization of carbon nanotubes through a controllable embedment of vertically-aligned carbon nanotubes into polymer matrices is reported, which allows not only asymmetric functionalization of nanotube sidewalls, but also facile introduction of new properties (e.g. magnetic) onto the region-selectively functionalized carbon nanotu...

One of the critical issues for the application of single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) in nanoelectronics is the control of their electronic properties, which can be either metallic or semiconducting in their pristine form, depending on their diameter and chirality. Since all known preparative methods yield mixtures of metallic and semiconducting nanotubes, extensive research has been devoted ...
