An efficient, PCR based method for the selective amplification of DNA target sequences that differs by a single base pair is described. The method utilises the high affinity and specificity of PNA for their complementary nucleic acids and that PNA cannot function as primers for DNA polymerases.

A novel electrostatic inchworm microactuator, which employs both a built-in mechanical transformation and a large number of contraction units to generate large force and sub-micrometer resolution step, is presented. The actuator is fabricated in a single polysilicon device layer using a trench isolation technology. The entire actuator, including the clamps and the contraction element, fits in a...

Abstract Deviations between nominal and actual tolerances are a challenging problem during turning processes of thin-walled workpieces. One main cause these deviations is the clamping force applied by chuck to hold workpiece. Due low stiffness workpieces, large workpiece deformations can occur even when forces low. For this reason, needs be precisely adjusted. A possible approach chucks with in...

At present, most vascular intervention surgical robots (VISRs) cannot achieve effective force feedback and lack regulation of the clamping guidewire. In this paper, a VISR based on is proposed. It master–slave system consisting master manipulator that flexible enough slave wire feeder can deliver Accurate established to ensure safety operation, guidewire be regulated in real time. Based dynamic...

The shuffle motor is a electrostatic stepper motor that employs a mechanical transformation to obtain high forces and small steps. A model has been made to calculate the driving voltage, step size and maximum load to pull as well as the optimal geometry. Tests results are an effective step size of about 85 nm and a maximum produced force of about 40 pN at 40V clamping voltage and 25 V actuator ...
