We consider coalescing fermions on a Riemann Surface and derive generalized determinant formulas, complementing some results of 3].

We study droplet coalescence in a molecular system with a variable viscosity and a colloid-polymer mixture with an ultralow surface tension. When either the viscosity is large or the surface tension is small enough, we observe that the opening of the liquid bridge initially proceeds at a constant speed set by the capillary velocity. In the first system we show that inertial effects become domin...

We explore the effect of hadronization by partonic coalescence on a “conical” signal at the partonic level. We show that, by transferring partons from a lower to a higher pT , coalescence makes the conical signal stronger and hence less susceptible to thermal smearing, provided the signal is integrated over a large momentum bin and effects such as non-collinearity and a finite Wigner function w...

The coalescence of nearly rigid liquid droplets in a turbulent flow field is viewed as the drainage of a thin film of liquid under the action of a stochastic force representing the effect of turbulence. The force squeezing the drop pair is modelled as a correlated random function of time. The drops are assumed to coalesce once the film thickness becomes smaller than a critical thickness while t...

Experimental studies have been performed to assess the effect of drop charge on turbulent drop coalescence. Although it is well known that surface charge can affect coalescence rates of Brownian particles in a quiescent medium, no studies have been found in the literature which explicitly examine charge effects on larger drops in turbulent media. Results demonstate that drop charge can substant...

We investigate the coalescence of two DNA bubbles initially located at weak domains and separated by a more stable barrier region in a designed construct of double-stranded DNA. In a continuum Fokker-Planck approach, the characteristic time for bubble coalescence and the corresponding distribution are derived, as well as the distribution of coalescence positions along the barrier. Below the mel...

In slurry bubble column reactors, catalyst particles may adhere to gas bubbles. Thus, mass transfer limited reactions can be significantly improved either by increasing G-L mass transfer coefficient kL or specific surface area a. The scope of this work is to study the influence of model parameters on coalescence and G-L mass transfer, in order to develop new rules for design and scale-up of slu...

In this study, the coalescence time between two contacting sub-resonance size bubbles was measured experimentally under an acoustic pressure ranging from 10kPa to 120kPa, driven at a frequency of 22.4kHz. The coalescence time obtained under sonication was much longer compared to that calculated by the film drainage theory for a free bubble surface without surfactants. It was found that under th...

We review the quark coalescence model for hadronization in rel-ativistic heavy ion collisions and show how it can explain the observed large baryon to meson ratio at intermediate transverse momentum and scaling of the elliptic flows of identified hadrons. We also show its predictions on higher-order anisotropic flows and discuss how quark coalescence applied to open-and hidden-charm mesons can ...

We demonstrate a microfluidic method to first generate double emulsion droplets containing two different inner drops, and to then control the internal coalescence of the encapsulated drops. The advantages of the core-coalescence method are illustrated by fabricating high viscosity particles and by demonstrating the dissolution of cell membranes.
