China's historiographical traditions tell of the successful control of a Great Flood leading to the establishment of the Xia dynasty and the beginning of civilization. However, the historicity of the flood and Xia remain controversial. Here, we reconstruct an earthquake-induced landslide dam outburst flood on the Yellow River about 1920 BCE that ranks as one of the largest freshwater floods of ...

We examine the charmless hadronic B decay modes in the context of R-parity violating (Rp / ) supersymmetry. We try to explain the large branching ratio (compared to the Standard Model (SM) prediction) of the decay B → ηK. There exist data for other observed η(′) modes and among these modes, the decay B0 → ηK∗0 is also found to be large compared to the SM prediction. We investigate all these mod...

Three qRules governing the collapse of a wave function are given in another paper. In most situations the predictions of this theory are identical with the predictions of other foundation theories. However, there is at least one experiment in which the qRules predict results that are characteristically different from other theories. These results are shown to be a function of temperature and pr...

We describe experimental results on the Gamow-Teller strength distribution as obtained from the B-decay of exotic nuclei. The most complete results, in light nuclei, confirm the absence of strength noted in (p,n) measurements. In heavier nuclei it is the remote tail of the resonance that is established by 8-decay.

Abstract. A seasonal investigation of the occurrence of metacercariae in cyprinoid fish was conducted at the Kwae Noi Bamroongdan Dam, Phitsanulok Province, northern Thailand during December 2008-August 2009. A total 361 cyprinoid fish from 10 species were examined by artificial digestion method evaluating for metacercariae. The metacercariae determined were Haplorchis taichui, Haplorchis pumil...

Ground-based synthetic aperture radar (GBSAR) is a powerful tool used in monitoring structures, such as bridges and dams. However, despite the extremely short range of GBSAR interferometry, the atmosphere effects cannot be neglected. The permanent scatterer technique is an effective operational tool that utilizes a long series of SAR data and detects information with high accuracy. An algorithm...

The interplay between neutrino masses and the interactions of neutrinos with matter is discussed with an eye to extending the latter to include possible new interactions. This conjecture may resolve the conundrum posed by the present experimental data on neutrino oscillations which suggest the existence of four neutrinos, whereas Z decay and Big Bang Nucleosynthesis allow only three. The case o...

Considering a preferential selection mechanism of load destination, we introduce a new method to quantify initial load distribution and subsequently construct a simple cascading model. By attacking the node with the highest load, we investigate the cascading dynamics in some synthetic networks. Surprisingly, we observe that for several networks of different structural patterns, a counterintuiti...

The status of CP violation and the CKM matrix is reviewed. Direct CP violation in B decay has been established and the measurement of sin 2β in ψK modes reached 5% accuracy. I discuss the implications of these, and of the possible deviations of the CP asymmetries in b → s modes from that in ψK. The first meaningful measurements of α and γ are explained, together with their significance for cons...

Significant progress has been made in recent years on the development of gravitational wave detectors. Sources such as coalescing compact binary systems, low-mass X-ray binaries, stellar collapses and pulsars are all possible candidates for detection. The most promising design of gravitational wave detector uses test masses a long distance apart and freely suspended as pendulums on Earth or in ...
