We study propagation and switching of slow-light pulses in nonlinear couplers with phase-shifted Bragg gratings. We demonstrate that power-controlled nonlinear self-action of light can be used to compensate for dispersion-induced broadening of pulses through the formation of gap solitons, to control pulse switching in the coupler, and to tune the propagation velocity.
In this letter, we propose a novel, ultrafast, efficient molecular switch whose switching mechanism involves the electric field-driven intramolecular proton transfer. By means of ab initio quantum chemical calculations and on-the-fly dynamics simulations, we examine the switching performance of an isolated salicylidene aniline molecule and analyze the perspectives of its possible use as an elec...
This work is concerned with numerical methods for controlled regime-switching diffusions, and regime-switching jump diffusions. Numerical procedures based on Markov chain approximation techniques are developed. Convergence of the algorithms is derived by means of weak convergence methods. In addition, examples are also provided for demonstration purpose. 2006 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
This paper presents simplified space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) based vector controlled induction motor drive. The conventional SVPWM algorithm constructs the required voltage vector in the average sense by using active and zero voltage vectors. Moreover, complexity involved in conventional SVPWM algorithm is more. Whereas, the proposed SVPWM algorithm calculates the switching times ...
Class E synchronous rectifier regulating the output voltage at a fixed switching frequency is presented, analyzed and experimentally verified. This rectifier is derived from a class E low dv/dt rectifier by replacing a rectifier diode with a controlled switch. The rectifier is driven by a sinusoidal current source, and the output voltage is regulated by vary the conduction time of the controlle...
Human behaviour is mostly composed of habitual actions that require little conscious control. Such actions may become invalid if the environment changes, at which point we need to switch behaviour by overcoming habitual actions that are otherwise triggered automatically. It is unclear how the brain controls this type of behavioural switching. Here we show that the presupplementary motor area (p...
OBJECTIVE This study reviewed the evidence from randomized, controlled trials on the efficacy and safety of antidepressants in the short-term treatment of bipolar depression. METHOD The authors performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized, controlled trials. They searched the Cochrane Collaboration Depression, Anxiety, and Neurosis Controlled Trials Register, incorporating re...
A new phase-controlled resonant inverter is obtained by paralleling the ac loads of two identical parallel resonant inverters. A phase shift between the drive signals of the two inverters controls the amplitude of the output voltage of the new inverter. A voltage-driven rectifier is used as an ac load of the inverter which results in a phase-controlled parallel resonant dc-dc converter. A frequ...
Phase-shifted converters are practically important to provide high conversion efficiencies through soft-switching techniques. However, the limitation on a resonant inductor current in the converters often leads to a non-fulfillment of the requirement of minimum load current. This paper presents a new power electronics control technique to enable the dual features of bi-directional power flow an...
Nanoscale resistive switching devices (memristive devices or memristors) have been studied for a number of applications ranging from non-volatile memory, logic to neuromorphic systems. However a major challenge is to address the potentially large variations in space and time in these nanoscale devices. Here we show that in metal-filament based memristive devices the switching can be fully stoch...
