Using facile, highly modular synthetic approaches, a new monomer family based on a 1,2,3-triazole-4-vinyl building block has been prepared, and various functional derivatives have been obtained. Subsequent homo- and copolymerization of these novel functionalized monomers gives polymeric materials with unique physical properties, combining many attractive features of more traditional monomers, s...

Novel [60]fullerene-based poly(phenylacetylene)s prepared by the copolymerization of achiral phenylacetylenes bearing a C(60) or crown ether pendant form a one-handed helix upon complexation with L- and D-alanine, yielding a helical array of the pendant fullerenes with a predominant screw-sense along the polymer backbone.

Polyisobutylene is shown to be a nonpolar phase tag that separates a highly colored salen Cr(III) complex from products but is otherwise kinetically similar to a low molecular weight salen Cr(III) complex in polycarbonate formation by Cr(III)-catalyzed copolymerization of CO2 and cyclohexene oxide.

Natural supports of information are given by random copolymers such as DNA or RNA where information is coded in the sequence of covalent bonds. At the molecular scale, the stochastic growth of a single copolymer with or without a template proceeds by successive random attachments or detachments of monomers continuously supplied by the surrounding solution. The thermodynamics of copolymerization...

The previously unresolved issue of polymerization of allyl monomers CH2 CHCH2 X is overcome by a palladium-catalyzed insertion polymerization of diallyl ether as a monomer. An enhanced 2,1-insertion of diallyl ether as compared to mono-allyl ether retards the formation of an unreactive five-membered cyclic O-chelate (after 1,2-insertion) that otherwise hinders further polymerization, and also ...

A very convenient one-step synthesis to cross-linked polymeric nanoparticles by conventional radical copolymerization without the addition of stabilizers or surfactants was explored. Moreover, these nanoparticles exhibited excellent stability, activity and selectivity in the cycloaddition reaction of CO(2) to epoxides and could be separated from the products easily and reused.

The synthesis of poly(VDF-co-TFMA) copolymers (where VDF and TFMA stand for vinylidene fluoride and α-trifluoromethacrylic acid, respectively) by iodine transfer polymerization without any surfactant is presented. First, the synthesis and the control of the copolymerization of VDF and TFMA were investigated in the presence of two chain transfer agents, 1-perfluorohexhyl iodide (C

The Ce/ Ce redox system was studied to initiate the grafting of idustrial cellulose pulp with vinyl acetate monomer. The parameters of the copolymerization reaction (reaction time, temperature, monomer and initiator contentration, freeness, chemical composition of the cellulose) were investigated and their effects are discussed.

We report the alternating ring-opening copolymerization of dihydrocoumarin with epoxides catalyzed by chromium(III) salen complexes. This process provides access to a range of perfectly alternating polyesters with high molecular weights and narrow molecular weight distributions. Atactic poly(cyclohexene dihydrocoumarate) and poly(cyclopentene dihydrocoumarate) were found to be semi-crystalline ...

An optically active helical poly(phenylacetylene) was synthesized by the copolymerization of phenylacetylenes bearing optically active hydroxy or ester groups obtained by the kinetic resolution of a racemic phenylacetylene with lipase; the helix-sense was inverted from one helix to another by the further chemical modification of the hydroxy groups with achiral bulky isocyanates or an acid chlor...
