The purpose of this study was to identify consistent features in the signals supplied by a single inertial measurement unit (IMU), or thereof derived, for the identification of foot-strike and foot-off instants of time and for the estimation of stance and stride duration during the maintenance phase of sprint running. Maximal sprint runs were performed on tartan tracks by five amateur and six e...

Various barriers for the uptake of energy-efficiency measures in the domestic sector have been identified. Projects try to quantify the effect of individual barriers like transaction costs, information lack, access to technologies or convenience. We propose to use the ‘consumer choice chain’ as a wider framework to understand energy-efficiency choices by domestic consumers. This allows comparis...

In this paper the Multiple Hypothesis Tracking with group tracking is applied to tracking targets in video sequences. The width/height ratio is used as a target feature to help in target/detection association. Group tracking is tested in real video sequences (PETS 2001) and shows that is possible to keep linked the otherwise interrupted tracks.

Assuming that aggressive behavior negatively affects all aspects of school performance (i.e. self-efficacy, affects, planning, motivation, and lack of outcome control) it would be logical to conclude that learning strategies to control affects can lead to improvements in school performance. To explore this hypothesis a group of 200 accessible students were given a questionnaire on aggressive be...

We show that for every n there are two simple curves on the torus intersecting at least n times without the two curves folding or spiralling with respect to each other. On the other hand, two simple curves in a punctured plane that intersect at least n times (and do not create any empty bigons) must either form a spiral of depth d or a fold of width cn/(d + 1) − 1, where c only depends on the n...

The water cycle in the western United States changed dramatically over glacial cycles. In the past 20,000 years, higher precipitation caused desert lakes to form which have since dried out. Higher glacial precipitation has been hypothesized to result from a southward shift of Pacific winter storm tracks. We compared Pacific Ocean data to lake levels from the interior west and found that Great B...
