Peak-ring basins represent an impact-crater morphology that is transitional between complex craters with central peaks and large multi-ring basins. Therefore, they can provide insight into the scale dependence of the impact process. Here the transition with increasing crater diameter from complex craters to peak-ring basins on Mercury is assessed through a detailed analysis of Eminescu, a geolo...

Introduction: We have investigated the structurally complex and highly fractured near-surface of the Barringer (aka Meteor) Crater, Arizona. The Barringer Crater is situated near Winslow, Arizona, and is one of the best preserved impact craters in the world. The crater was excavated some 49,000 years ago by the impact of an iron-nickel meteorite which hit the preexisting Colorado Plateau with a...

The Boltysh crater has an entire suite of crater-fill impactites preserved, including two impact meltbearing breccias. Smectite occurrence in the breccias suggests two stages of alteration; an early hydrothermal mineralization, and a later, low temperature weathering. δD and δO of smectite separates are currently being measured and will be presented.

Accelerator mass spectrometry measures the depth profiles of material concentration in solid samples. Crater edge effects affect the experimental data when the secondary ions are sputtered from the sidewalls of the produced crater. We present a simple mathematical unfolding procedure that removes the perturbing contribution from the measured depth profile data. Application of this procedure to ...

Boguslawsky crater (72.9°S, 43.3°E, 100 km in diameter) is a primary target for the Luna-Glob mission. The crater has a morphologically smooth (at the resolution of WAC images), flat, and horizontal floor, which is about 55–60 km in diameter. Two ellipses were selected as specific candidate landing areas on the floor: the western ellipse is centered at 72.9°S, 41.3°E and the eastern ellipse is ...

External root resorption may occur as a consequence of trauma, orthodontic treatment, bacterial infection or incomplete sealing of the root canal system (bacterial re-infection), and lead to crater formation on the resorbed apex. This would deform the root apex surface, and cause loss of apical constriction. Depending on the extent of the resorptive process, different treatment regimens have be...

We compared the quality of debridement of chondral lesions performed by four arthroscopic (SH, shaver; CU, curette; SHCU, shaver and curette; BP, bipolar electrodes) and one open technique (OPEN, scalpel and curette) which are used prior to autologous chondrocyte implantation (ACI). The ex vivo simulation of all five techniques was carried out on six juvenile equine stifle joints. The OPEN, SH ...

Introduction: It has been estimated that the total number of meteoroids entering the Earth's atmosphere with masses above 1 kg is about 37000 per year [1]. And approximately 4400 events with mass more than 1 kg strike the Earth every year [1]. Among these im-pactors, those in the mass range ~10 4-3.10 6 kg fragment and form crater fields, with the largest crater resulting from impact of the lar...

BACKGROUND Intestinal schistosomiasis is of public health importance in Uganda but communities living above 1400 m are not targeted for control as natural transmission is thought unlikely. To assess altitudinal boundaries and at-risk populations, conjoint malacological and epidemiological surveys were undertaken on Mount Elgon (1139 m-3937 m), in Fort Portal crater lakes and in the Rwenzori Mou...
