INTRODUCTION Cyclosporine is the backbone of immunosuppression in kidney transplantation. However, it is associated with side effects, some of which are dose-dependent. We evaluated association between cyclosporine trough level and its side effects. MATERIALS AND METHODS In 50 kidney transplant recipients, serum cyclosporine level, fasting blood glucose, and serum creatinine were measured 7 t...

Blood concentrations of cyclosporine were determined in adult and pediatric patients following orthotopic liver transplantation to quantitate cyclosporine blood clearance and oral absorption. Seventeen bioavailability studies were performed following transplantation surgery in nine children and seven adults. The intravenous cyclosporine study was performed following an average dose of 2.1 mg/kg...

Laser Raman spectroscopy has been employed to investigate the effects of cyclosporine-A on the order and dynamics of DPPC (Dipalmytoyl Phosphatidyl Choline) midel membrane system. It is shown that the addition of small amount of cyclosporine-A to a DPPC dispersion disturb the system and changes the order/disorder parameter of the model membrane.

Cyclosporine is an immunosuppressive substance that causes structural and functional alterations in endothelial cells. To examine the effects of chronic cyclosporine therapy on endothelial function, Wistar Kyoto rats received daily s.c. injections of saline, cyclosporine solvent, or cyclosporine (15, 30, or 50 mg/kg) for up to 2 wk. Blood pressure remained unchanged in all groups. Segments of t...

introduction: recent studies have shown acute cardioprotective effects of cyclosporine. the aim of the present study was to determine the protective role of cyclosporine on the model simulated the rotational nodal arrhythmia (avnrt) by using extracellular field potential recordings of isolated atrioventricular-node (av-node) of rabbit. methods: this study was performed on isolated double-perfus...

Restenosis after balloon dilatation of stenosed coronary arteries is a major clinical problem. Because T lymphocytes occur in neointima and because cyclosporine inhibits T-lymphocyte proliferation, we tested the hypothesis that cyclosporine would attenuate neointimal proliferation after balloon dilation injury. Rabbits with a balloon-injured aorta, randomized to cyclosporine in the human therap...

The dose-response and plasma concentration-response relationships of cyclosporine after both inducing and inhibiting its metabolism were studied in a mouse heart transplant model. The metabolism of cyclosporine was altered by coadministering phenobarbital and cimetidine as metabolism inducing and inhibiting agents, respectively. We found that phenobarbital depressed the immunosuppressive potenc...

PURPOSE OF REVIEW The purpose of the review is to review the pathophysiology, available data, and our current recommendations for calcineurin inhibitor (cyclosporine and tacrolimus) treatment in antihistamine refractory chronic idiopathic urticaria (CIU) patients. RECENT FINDINGS Low-dose cyclosporine (<5  mg/kg per day) may have unique immunological modulating properties beyond mast cell and...
