BACKGROUND The hypothetical responsibility of sperm donation in cytomegalovirus (CMV) transmission to recipients and precautions to prevent this transmission are widely discussed. The aim of this French CECOS Federation study was to evaluate both the reality and the importance of the CMV risk due to donor sperm and the relevance of measures used to screen it. METHODS We conducted a prospectiv...

A city-wide cytomegalovirus serosurvey was conducted in Shanghai, China, and associated parameters were calculated by employing the catalytic model. The lowest seroprevalence was 60.37%, found in the >1- to 3-year age group. The value increased rapidly with age until 25 years, when a value of 97.03% was found, caused by the high force of infection (12.69) and by the reproductive rate (8.89).

BACKGROUND Congenital cytomegalovirus infections are a leading cause of neurodevelopmental disorders in human and represent a major health care and socio-economical burden. In contrast with this medical importance, the pathophysiological events remain poorly known. Murine models of brain cytomegalovirus infection, mostly neonatal, have brought recent insights into the possible pathogenesis, wit...

Cytomegalovirus and Chlamydia trachomatis are prevalent sexually transmissible pathogens. They produce persistent infections of the cervix and have been associated with cervical neoplasia. Cytomegalovirus has also been shown to induce transformation of cells in culture. Because of the high prevalence of genital infections with these pathogens and evidence that they may have oncogenic effects on...
