Humans discount larger delayed rewards less steeply than smaller rewards, whereas no such magnitude effect has been observed in rats (and pigeons). It remains possible that rats' discounting is sensitive to differences in the quality of the delayed reinforcer even though it is not sensitive to amount. To evaluate this possibility, Experiment 1 examined discounting of qualitatively different foo...

Imaging systems based on terahertz time-domain spectroscopy offer a range of unique modalities due to the broad bandwidth, sub-picosecond duration, and phasesensitive detection of the THz pulses. Furthermore, an exciting possibility exists to combine spectroscopic characterization and/or identification with imaging because the radiation is broadband in nature. In order to achieve this, novel me...

We propose different concepts of mechanically reconfigurable true-time-delay phase shifters using micro-actuators at millimeter-waves (MMW). The mechanical reconfiguration allows to achieve phase shift reconfiguration with very low losses. One of the proposed concepts has been fully implemented and tested, demonstrating state-of-the-art performance in terms of phase-shift/loss ratio.

In this paper, for the first time, the effect of the substrate doping of 22nm double-insulating UTBB silicon-on-insulator device on the switching performance and turn-on delay of the transistor is investigated. In UTBB devices, the substrate voltage is varied from positive to zero then negative voltages to trade-off transistor speed against the leakage current. Various circuit design procedures...

In this paper, the analysis of low-frequency zone of the speech signals from the five Spanish vowels, by means of the Teager energy operator (TEO) and the modified group delay functions (MGDF) is proposed for the automatic detection of Parkinson’s disease. According to our findings, different implementations of the TEO are suitable for tackling the problem of the automatic detection of Parkinso...

AbstructABR service relies on a feedback from the network, therefore i t strongly suffers from the long propagation delays characterizing satellite networks. In fact, i t has been shown that the high delay, in combination with high bandwidth, can deceive ABR sources and make them falsely believe that a break occurred somewhere in the path. Since ABR sources respond to breaks by reducing their c...

BACKGROUND Humans often show impatience when making intertemporal choice for monetary rewards, preferring small rewards delivered immediately to larger rewards delivered after a delay, which reflects a fundamental psychological principle: delay discounting. However, we propose that episodic prospection humans can vividly envisage exerts a strong and broad influence on individuals' delay discoun...

In December 2010, the Fraser Institute released its twentieth annual measurement of waiting times for medically necessary treatments in Canada (Barua et al., 2010). This most recent measurement shows that the national median waiting time from specialist appointment to treatment increased from 8.0 weeks in 2009 to 9.3 weeks in 2010. But the measurement of waiting times, or the examination of the...

This paper presents adaptive techniques for improving delay fault diagnosis. These techniques reduce the search space for direct probing which can save a lot of time during failure analysis. Given a set of two-pattern tests that resulted in faulty output responses, a procedure for deriving additional two-pattern tests that will improve the diagnostic resolution of delay faults is described. Two...

We present space-time-resolved measurements of electromagnetic pulses tunneling through a coaxial electromagnetic band gap structure. The results show that during the tunneling process the field distribution inside the barrier is an exponentially decaying standing wave whose amplitude increases and decreases as it slowly follows the temporal evolution of the input pulse. At no time is a pulse m...
