background and objective: nowadays, incidence of antibiotic-resistance among pathogenic bacteria has increased due to indiscriminate use of antimicrobial drugs for treatment of diseases, especially urinary tract infections. medicinal plants are also of great importance as antibacterial agents. therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the antibacterial effect of ethanolic extract of net...

Diffusion coefficient is one of the parameters which can describe the rate of chloride ion diffusion in concrete. This can be obtained by the chloride ion profile. By determining this factor, one can predict when the chloride ion concentration on the reinforcement surface reaches a critical value, and the cover tickness which is needed for preventing corrosion. Time and distance dependency of ...

to control the nonlinear numerical instability, throughout the time evolution of the eulerian form of the nonlinear rotating shallow water equations, it is necessary to add numerical diffusion to the solution. it is clear that, this extra numerical diffusion degrades the accuracy of the numerical solution and should be kept as small as possible. in a conventional approach a hyper-diffusion is u...

A tilted two-layer colloidal system is constructed for the study of force-assisted barrier-crossing dynamics over a periodic potential. The periodic potential is provided by the bottom layer colloidal spheres forming a fixed crystalline pattern on a glass substrate. The corrugated surface of the bottom colloidal crystal provides a gravitational potential field for the top layer diffusing partic...

We study colonies of nonmotile, rod-shaped bacteria growing on solid substrates. In our model, bacteria interact purely mechanically, by pushing each other away as they grow, and consume a diffusing nutrient. We show that mechanical interactions control the velocity and shape of the advancing front, which leads to features that cannot be captured by established Fisher-Kolmogorov models. In part...

Random walks as well as diffusions in random media are considered. Methods are developed that allow one to establish large deviation results for both the 'quenched' and the 'averaged' case.

We introduce a model for information spreading among a population of N agents diffusing on a square L x L lattice, starting from an informed agent (Source). Information passing from informed to unaware agents occurs whenever the relative distance is < or = 1. Numerical simulations show that the time required for the information to reach all agents scales as N(-alpha)L(beta), where alpha and bet...
