DNA vaccinations against fish viral diseases as IHNV at commercial level in Canada against VHSV at experimental level are both success stories. DNA vaccination strategies against many other viral diseases have, however, not yet yielded sufficient results in terms of protection. There is an obvious need to combat many other viral diseases within aquaculture where inactivated vaccines fail. There...

Introduction: Previous studies revealed that oxidative stress is elevated in multiple sclerosis (MS). It can harm to biological macromolecules such as DNA. However, the molecular mechanism in protection of genetic information from DNA damages is not clear in MS disease. In this study the expression level of some important genes of OGG1 and MYH involved in base excision repair pathway and, MTH1 ...

Background There has been a growing claim about the stress induced by the modern life and especially by cell phones. It may have detrimental effect on sperms. We examined the relationship of stress caused by cell phone radiation and the effect of Zinc and Alpha-tocopherol on the sperms and its chromatin in this condition. MaterialsAndMethods Fresh semen has been collected from 20 young men. Eac...

The present study showed that incorporation of CpG adjuvant into plasmid DNA coding for NcGRA7 antigen resulted in a twofold increase in the level of protection against congenital transfer of Neospora caninum. The level of protection was considerably higher than that observed in pups born from dams immunized with nonrecombinant plasmid.

Some members of the DNA-binding protein from stationary phase cells (Dps) family of proteins have been shown to play an important role in protecting microorganisms from oxidative or nutritional stress. Dps homologs have been identified in various bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, and Listeria innocua. Recently we have reported the presence of a Dps homolog, Ms-Dps, in Mycoba...

There have been encouraging results for the development of an effective HIV vaccine. However, many questions remain regarding the quality of immune responses and the role of mucosal antibodies. We addressed some of these issues by using a simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) DNA vaccine adjuvanted with plasmid-expressed mucosal chemokines combined with an intravaginal SIV challenge in rhesus mac...

The prime concern of radiation protection policy since 1959 has been to protect DNA from damage. In 1994 the United Nations Scientific Community on the Effects of Atomic Radiation focused on biosystem response to radiation with its report Adaptive Responses to Radiation of Cells and Organisms. The 1995 National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements report Principles and Application o...
