Porous copper zinc tin sulfide (CZTS) thin film was prepared via a solvothermal approach. Compared with conventional dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), double junction photoelectrochemical cells using dye-sensitized n-type TiO(2) (DS-TiO(2)) as the photoanode and porous p-type CZTS film as the photocathode shows an increased short circuit current, external quantum efficiency and power conversi...

Based upon the bis(2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline)copper(I/II) electron mediator, we present an iodine-free dye-sensitized solar cell exhibiting an impressive power conversion efficiency of 7.0% at 100 mW cm(-2) air mass global (AM1.5G) conditions, which rivals that of a control cell with a conventional iodine redox couple.

A PEDOT-based dye-sensitized solar cell (DSC) is successfully improved by coupling photoelectrochemically deposited PEDOT layer with an Ag paste-paint on the cathode. With a 9.3 μm thick mesoscopic nanocrystalline TiO(2) film, a maximum cell performance of 3.2% with relatively high V(oc) of around 780 mV is achieved.

We fabricate photo-anodes by transferring anodic TiO2 nanotube membranes in tube-top-down configuration on FTO glass, and use them for constructing frontside illuminated dye-sensitized solar cells. Prior to solar cell construction, the tube-based photo-anodes are crystallized at different temperatures (400–800 °C), and the effects of tube electron transport properties on the photovoltaic perfor...

The interest in dye-sensitized solar cells has increased due to reduced energy sources and higher energy production costs. For the most part, titania (TiO2) has been the material of choice for dye-sensitized solar cells and so far have shown to exhibit the highest overall light conversion efficiency ∼ 11 %. However, zinc oxide (ZnO) has recently been explored as an alternative material in dye-s...

A series of new phenothiazine-based dyes (HL5-HL7) with double acceptors/anchors have been synthesized and used as the sensitizers for highly efficient dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Among them, the HL7-based cell exhibits the best efficiency of 8.32% exceeding the N719-based cell (7.35%) by ∼13%.

A pi-extended porphyrin possessing two anchoring groups has been synthesized and successfully applied to dye-sensitized solar cells with a power conversion efficiency of 5.5%, rendering it comparable to the performance of N719-sensitized solar cells under the conditions employed here.

Neighboring metal nanoparticles influence photovoltaic and photocatalytic behavior of semiconductor nanostructures either through Fermi level equilibration by accepting electrons or inducing localized surface plasmon effects. By employing SiO(2)- and TiO(2)-capped Au nanoparticles we have identified the mechanism with which the performance of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSC) is influenced by t...

Cosensitization of broadly absorbing ruthenium metal complex dyes with highly absorptive near-infrared (NIR) organic dyes is a clear pathway to increase near-infrared light harvesting in liquid-based dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs). In cosensitized DSCs, dyes are intimately mixed, and intermolecular charge and energy transfer processes play an important role in device performance. Here, we de...
