Semantic Web technologies are increasingly being adopted for aggregating Web data. Tools such as Semantic Data Browsers have been proposed to assist users to access and make sense of the vast semantic space. However, further investigations are needed to understand how users make use of the additional semantic features provided by these new breed of browsers and their effectiveness in supporting...

We describe a pilot on evaluating exploratory search inWikipedia, the free online encyclopedia. The pilot will be held at CLEF 2006, and brings together both search and navigation, and reading and authoring.

Current user needs and expectations increasingly shift focus away from simple information lookup towards more complex tasks collectively described as exploratory search. This requires the development of novel approaches and tools to search, navigation and processing of information, such as personalized faceted browsing. We describe a visualization approach for personalized faceted browsers suit...

We present TwitterCracy, an exploratory search system that allows users to search and monitor across the Twitter streams of political entities. Its exploratory capabilities stem from the application of lightweight time-series based clustering together with biased PageRank to extract facets from tweets and presenting them in a manner that facilitates exploration.

In this paper we describe a process for creating and evaluating exploratory tasks for a faceted search interface. We used the tasks in an eye tracking study of a faceted library catalog search interface. We report on user perceptions of the tasks. The method is intended to be extensible to generate exploratory tasks for other types of interfaces and domains.

In this paper, the features of TheHotMap.com that support exploratory Web search processes are described. This system grew out of two academic research projects that explored the use of visualization and interaction as a means for supporting users as they conduct Web search tasks. In TheHotMap.com, three lightweight interface extensions have been added to the commonly used list-based representa...

Identifying, developing and commercialising innovations through traditional approaches are often ineffective or inefficient when discontinuous conditions occur. New or additional capabilities and practices are desirable for organisations under such complex conditions. Based on a comprehensive literature review about search practices and drawing on the empirical background of a survey to 500 Ita...

New parents are faced with the challenge of quickly acquiring a new base of knowledge, while simultaneously navigating a significant life change. While both new mothers and fathers experience new and unique parental demands, their early caregiving challenges differ and new mothers often search for different types of support and information online. We here present findings from an exploratory in...

This paper presents the design and study of interactive user modeling to support exploratory search tasks. Contrary to traditional interactions, such as query based search, query suggestions, or relevance feedback, interactive user modeling allows users to perceive the state of a user model at all times and provide feedback that directly rewards or penalizes it. The technique allows users to co...

This paper presents a novel approach for designing a digital FIR high pass filter using hybrid predator prey optimization (HPPO) algorithm. HPPO is a combination of two algorithms that are given by predator prey optimation (PPO) and exploratory move (EM). Predator prey optimization is a global search algorithm whereas exploratory move is a local search algorithm. Prey particles try to occupy sa...
