In this paper we discuss theoretical and experimental investigations of the use of eddy current damping for multi-stage pendulum suspensions such as those intended for use in Advanced LIGO, the proposed upgrade to LIGO (the US laser interferometric gravitational-wave observatory). The design of these suspensions is based on the triple pendulum suspension design developed for GEO 600, the German...

A classical control approach to stabilizing a dual inverted pendulum system with linear control is presented, along with measured results of the completed system. The emphasis of this work is on both the system’s implementation details and its role in a feedback course at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The control method includes a variety of techniques that makes this system not on...

This document details the commonly available sensing (inputs), actuating (outputs) and processing mechanisms employed in a physical environment in order to sense and react to events in real time. While the conventional applications of these feedback control systems are in consumer and industrial applications, the document primarily concentrates on those tools that may find use in the built envi...

Generating droplets of uniform volume is essential for the digital microfluidics systems, which use droplets as basic fluidic units. Recently we have shown that high uniformity (±%2) can be achieved by new firing sequence [1]. We have also confirmed accurate on-chip capacitive measurement of droplet volumes [1,2]. In the current paper, we develop feedback control system to defeat the random unc...

This paper focuses on the Popov generalized theory for a class of some linear systems including discrete and distributed delays. Sufficient conditions for stabilizing such systems as well as for coerciveness of an appropriate quadratic cost are developed. The obtained results are applied for the design of a memoiyless state feedback control law which guarantees the (exponential) closed-loop sta...

Early data on the phenomenology of software system evolution suggest that such evolution involves and is, to some extent, governed by feedback. This feedback may take the form of information fed back to individuals or groups as a form of learning from experience or may take the form of observation and data that are used to control some aspect of the process. For the moment, we shall put the for...

Recently, the small-gain theorem for input-to-state stable (ISS) systems has been extended to the class of integral input-to-state stable (iISS) systems. Feedback connections of two iISS systems are robustly stable with respect to disturbance if an extended small-gain condition is satisfied. It has been proved that at least one of the two iISS subsystems needs to be ISS for guaranteeing globall...

this paper evaluates a new and simple controller design method based on qft (quantitative feedback theory) for a two-link manipulator whose first link is rigid and the second is flexible. a piezoelectric patch is attached to the surface of the flexible link for vibration suppression of it. this system is modeled as a nonlinear multi-input multi-output (mimo) control systems whose inputs are two...

This paper investigates the bounded input bounded output (BIBO) stability in a class of control system of nonlinear differential equations with time-delay. The proofs are based on our studies on the boundedness of the solutions of a general class of nonlinear Volterra integral equations.

The paper addresses the problem of dynamic feedback linearization of discrete-time nonlinear control systems. Analogously to the continuous-time case, necessary and sufficient conditions for flatness property are obtained and showed to be equivalent to previously known results on feedback linearizability by endogenous dynamic feedback. An example is added to illustrate the results.
