OBJECTIVE To investigate the associations among salivary bacteria, oral emanations of volatile sulfur compounds, and academic-related chronic stress in healthy male subjects. MATERIALS AND METHODS Seventy-eight healthy male undergraduate dental students were classified as stressed or not by evaluation of burnout, a syndrome attributed to academic-related chronic stress. This evaluation was ca...

A gutless polychaete of the family Siboglinidae, Oligobrachia mashikoi, known in the past as a beard worm of the group Pogonophora, inhabits Tsukumo Bay of the Noto Peninsula in the Sea of Japan. Photographs were taken of this polychaete projecting about one third of the length of its tentacles outside of its tube. The tube protruded several mm from the sea bottom. These are the first field pho...

The rate of reaction between dilute hydrogen sulfide and ozone in air was measured. Experimental data were obtained from two tubular, laminar-flow reactors having internal dia. of 3/8 in. and l/4 in. On the basis of these data the following expression was obtained for the rate of generation of sulfur dioxide by the reaction of hydrogen sutide with ozone in the absence of light. dcso, = 22.8exp ...

In this paper, a visible light excitable ESIPT probe was developed, which was found to be a very promising colorimetric and fluorescent sensor for rapid and selective detection of hydrogen sulfide in aqueous solution. The sensing mechanism and the application of this probe for hydrogen sulfide detection in biological serum and in simulated wastewater samples were investigated.

Experimental evidence suggests that nitric oxide (NO) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) signaling pathways are intimately intertwined, with mutual attenuation or potentiation of biological responses in the cardiovascular system and elsewhere. The chemical basis of this interaction is elusive. Moreover, polysulfides recently emerged as potential mediators of H2S/sulfide signaling, but their biosynthesi...

3D modeling of Pd/α-Al2O3 hollow fiber membrane by using computational fluid dynamic for hydrogen separation from H2/N2 mixture was considered in steady and unsteady states by using the concept of characteristic time. Characteristic time concept could help us to design and calculate surface to volume ratio and membrane thickness, and adjust the feed conditions. The contribution of resistance be...

Homocysteine, a cardiovascular and neurocognitive disease risk factor, is converted to hydrogen sulfide, a cardiovascular and neuronal protectant, through the transsulfuration pathway. Given the damaging effects of free homocysteine in the blood and the importance of blood homocysteine concentration as a prognosticator of disease, we tested the hypotheses that the blood itself regulates homocys...
