A two-photon excitable molecular probe for fluoride, developed based on a fluoride-specific desilylation reaction, is demonstrated to be useful for fluorescent imaging of fluoride ions in live zebrafish by one-photon as well as two-photon microscopy for the first time.

A flow injection system is reported for the determination of fluoride based on its effects on the fluorescence intensity of Al-morin complex at pH 3.0 in ethanol-warn mixture. The effect of important parameters such as excitation and emission wavelengths, pH, reagents concenkations, flow rate of the carrier stream, sample injection volume, time of measurepent and interferences are reported. ...

Polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS)-containing red fluorescent nanoparticles were designed and prepared for rapid detection of aqueous fluoride ions by virtue of the fluoride-triggered self-quenching of perylene bisimide dyes in nanoparticle cores.

Interactions between halide ions (fluoride and iodide) and t-butyl alcohol (TBA) dissolved in water are probed using a recently developed hydration-shell spectroscopic technique and theoretical cluster and liquid calculations. High ignal-to-noise Raman spectroscopic measurements are combined with multivariate curve resolution (Raman-MCR) to reveal that while there is little interaction between ...

High incidence of chronic kidney disease of unknown etiology (CKDU) prevalent in many countries (e.g., Sri Lanka, equatorial America) is reviewed in the context of recent experimental work and using our understanding of the hydration of ions and proteins. Qualitative considerations based on Hofmeister-type action of these ions, as well as quantitative electrochemical models for the Gibbs free e...

We describe a novel combustion synthesis for the preparation of Nanomagnesia (NM) and its application in water purification. The synthesis is based on the self-propagated combustion of the magnesium nitrate trapped in cellulose fibers. Various characterization studies confirmed that NM formed is crystalline with high phase purity, and the particle size varied in the range of 3-7nm. The fluoride...

Aluminofluoride complexes (AlF(x)) form spontaneously in aqueous solutions containing fluoride and traces of aluminum ions and appear to act as phosphate analogs. These complexes have become widely utilized in laboratory investigations of various guanine nucleotide-binding proteins. Reflecting on many laboratory studies, a new mechanism of fluoride and aluminum action on the cellular level is b...

Erbium L(3)-edge extended x-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) measurements were performed on rare earth doped fluorosilicate and fluoroborate glasses and glass ceramics. The well known nucleating effects of erbium ions for the crystallization of cubic lead fluoride (based on x-ray diffraction measurements) and the fact that the rare earth ions are present in the crystalline phase (as indica...

In this study, a novel system for the detection and quantification of organofluorophosphonates (OFP) has been developed by using an optical sensing polymeric membrane to detect the fluoride ions produced upon OFP hydrolysis. Diisopropyl fluorophosphate (DFP), a structural analogue of type G chemical warfare agents such as Sarin (GB) and Soman (GD), is used as the surrogate target analyte. An op...

besides human dental and skeletal fluorosis, drinking water above permissible levels of fluoride is known to cause a wide range of adverse health effects. in this study, the adsorption of fluoride from aqueous solution onto pretreated zeolite has been studied by using batch test. the large surface area of natural zeolite (i. e., clinoptilolite from miyaneh region, iran) was utilized to create a...
