A new catalytic application of hypoiodite reagents generated in situ from iodide ions is found, which succeeded in the synthesis of bisbenzannelated spiroketal cores for the first time. Fluoride was proven to be obligatory for this spiroketalization, which is the first fluoride-promoted oxidative cycloetherification to aromatic spiroketals.

Glass ionomer cement systems have become important dental restorative and luting materials for use in preschoolers, children and teenagers. These materials form chemical bonds to tooth structure, are biocompatible, release fluoride ions for uptake by enamel and dentin, and are able to take up fluoride ions from dentifrices, mouthwashes, and topically applied solutions. Unlike early glass ionome...

Carney, Shirley A., Hall, M., Lawrence, J. C., and Ricketts, C. R. (1974). British Journal of Industrial Medicine, 31, 317-321. Rationale of the treatment of hydrofluoric acid burns. On contact with skin hydrofluoric acid yields hydrogen and fluoride ions, which exhaust the tissue's buffering capacity. Fluoride was found to be toxic to skin cells, as judged by the accumulation of 3-phosphoglyce...

Porous zirconium alginate beads as a novel adsorbent were prepared for fluoride removal and characterized by SEM, FTIR, TG, EDX and XPS. The effect of solution pH, adsorbent dose, initial fluoride concentration, contact time, medium temperature and the coexisting ions on adsorption capacity of fluoride ion has been studied. The presence of HCO3 , SO4 2and PO4 3had a large negative impact on flu...

Rechargeable secondary batteries operating through fluoride-ion shuttling between the positive and negative electrodes, referred to as fluoride shuttle (FSBs), offer a potentially promising solution overcoming energy-density limitations of current lithium-ion battery systems. However, there are many technical issues that need be resolved achieve high-quality fluoride-carrying electrolytes ensur...

The adsorption behavior and mechanism for the uptake of fluoride ions by untreated and desugared reed residues (roots, stems and leaves) were studied through adsorption experiments, elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy and surface area analysis. The results showed that the adsorption capacity of untreated and desugared reeds followed the order: desugared roots 2136 mg/kg > desugared leaves...

Glass-ionomer-cement (GIC) is helpful in Minimal Intervention Dentistry because it releases fluoride ions and is highly biocompatible. The aim of this study is to investigate the mechanisms by which hydroxyapatite (HAp) improves the mechanical strength and bioactive functioning of GIC when these materials are combined to make apatite ionomer cement (AIC). A conventional GIC powder was mixed wit...

Selective blockade of inhibitory synaptic transmission onto specific neurons is a useful tool for dissecting the excitatory and inhibitory synaptic components of ongoing network activity. To achieve this, intracellular recording with a patch solution capable of blocking GABAA receptors has advantages over other manipulations, such as pharmacological application of GABAergic antagonists or optog...

The aim of this study was to assess the influence of a fluoridated medium on the mechanical properties of an internal hexagon implant-abutment set, by means of compression, mechanical cycling and metallographic characterization by scanning electronic microscopy. Five years of regular use of oral hygiene with a sodium fluoride solution content of 1500 ppm were simulated, immersing the samples in...

Fluoride is a persistent and non-biodegradable pollutant that accumulates in soil, plants, wildlife and in human beings. Therefore, knowledge of its removal, using best technique with optimum efficiency is needed. The present survey highlights on efficacy of different materials for the removal of fluoride from water. The most important results of extensive studies on various key factors (pH, ag...
