A dried powder from basidiomycetous fungi, Ganoderma lucidum, has been used in East Asia in therapies for several different diseases, including cancer. However, the molecular mechanisms involved in the biological actions of Ganoderma are not well understood. We have recently demonstrated that phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI 3-kinase) and nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-kappaB) regulate motility of ...
The aim of this study was to conduct a molecular and biochemical characterization and to compare the antioxidant and antiproliferative activities of four Ganoderma isolates belonging to Ganoderma lucidum (Gl-4, Gl-5) and Ganoderma resinaceum (F-1, F-2) species. The molecular identification was performed by ITS and IGS sequence analyses and the biochemical characterization by enzymatic and prote...
Medicinal mushrooms have been used for centuries as nutraceuticals to improve health and to treat numerous chronic and infectious diseases. One such mushroom is Ganoderma lucidum, commonly known as Lingzhi, a species revered as a medicinal mushroom for treating assorted diseases and prolonging life. The fungus is found in diverse locations, and this may have contributed to confusion regarding t...
ISSN: 2319-7706 Volume 5 Number 10 (2016) pp. 891-909 Journal homepage: http://www.ijcmas.com Ganoderma lucidum is considered as one of the richest sources of natural antibiotics and various species of them inhibit the growth of a wide diversity of micro organisms. The pharmacological activities of Ganoderma lucidum, especially its intrinsic immunomodulating and antitumor properties have been w...
In humans, 5alpha-reductase is involved in the development of benign prostatic hyperplasia. Triterpenoids isolated from ethanol extracts of Ganoderma lucidum (Fr.) Krast (Ganodermataceae) inhibited 5alpha-reductase activity. The presence of the C-3 carbonyl group and of the C-26-alpha,beta-unsaturated carbonyl group was characteristic of almost all inhibitors isolated from G. lucidum.
Bioassay-guided fractionation of methanol extract of Ganoderma lucidum gave a pure cholesterol esterase inhibitor. On the basis of spectroscopic analysis and comparison with data from the literature, its structure was identified as 5alpha,8alpha-epidioxyergosta-6,22-dien-3beta-ol (compound I). Compound (I) inhibited cholesterol esterase with an IC50 value of 42 micronM. A Lineweaver-Burk plot r...
backgrounds and objectives : ganoderic acids are the most valuable secondary metabolites in ganoderma lucidum traditional medicinal mushrooms, which have shown antitumor properties in many studies. however, application of ganoderic acids is limited due to low yield production. recently, it was shown that static liquid culture could be a proven technology for producing ganoderic acids in ganoder...
ganoderma lucidum is one of the most well-known fungi, and has many applications in medicine. ganoderic acid is among the valuable secondary metabolites of ganoderma lucidum, and responsible for the inhibition of the tumor cell growth and cancer treatment. application of ganoderic acid has been limited because of low yields of its production from ganoderma lucidum. the present study aims to inv...
The mushroom Ganoderma lucidum (G. lucidum) has been consumed in China as a medicine for promoting health and longevity for thousands of years. Due to its paramount and multiple pharmaceutical effects, G. lucidum has received considerable attention from researchers and its chemical constituents as well as their respective functions were gradually unveiled by using modern research methods. Herei...
Ganoderma lucidum (reishi mushroom) has been used in traditional Chinese and Japanese medicine as a herbal remedy for over 2000 years. Studies have shown that G. lucidum has anti-allergic, anti-oxidant, anti-tumor, anti-viral, and anti-inflammatory properties. A review of the literature revealed that there were no studies examining the use of G. lucidum for the treatment of skin diseases. Here,...
