We prove that for p ≥ 2 solutions of equations modeled by the fractional p−Laplacian improve their regularity on the scale of fractional Sobolev spaces. Moreover, under certain precise conditions, they are in W 1,p loc and their gradients are in a fractional Sobolev space as well. The relevant estimates are stable as the fractional order of differentiation s reaches 1.

The dual purpose of this article is to establish bilinear Poincaré-type estimates associated to an approximation of the identity and to explore the connections between bilinear pseudo-differential operators and bilinear potential-type operators. The common underlying theme in both topics is their applications to Leibniz-type rules in Sobolev and Campanato-Morrey spaces under Sobolev scaling.

In this chapter we study reparametrization invariant Sobolev metrics on spaces of regular curves. We discuss their completeness properties and the resulting usability for applications in shape analysis. In particular, we will argue, that the development of efficient numerical methods for higher order Sobolev type metrics is an extremely desirable goal.

We consider the heat equation with Dirichlet boundary conditions on the tubular neighborhood of a closed Riemannian submanifold of a Riemannian manifold. We show that, as the tube diameter tends to zero, a suitably rescaled and renormalized semigroup converges to a limit semigroup in Sobolev spaces of arbitrarily large Sobolev index.

We study the initial value problem (IVP) associated to some canonical dispersive equations. Our main concern is to establish the minimal regularity property required in the data which guarantees the local well-posedness of the problem. Measuring this regularity in the classical Sobolev spaces, we show ill-posedness results for Sobolev index above the value suggested by the scaling argument.

We consider fractional Sobolev spaces with dominating mixed derivatives and prove some generalizations of Trudinger's limiting imbedding theorem.
