Many elements are implicated in fetal and postnatal growth ; the hormonal factors are discussed in this review. In the first section, general hormonal effects on the growth of domestic animals are reviewed with special emphasis on the role of the pituitary and its hormones (growth hormone, prolactin, ACTH) ; somatomedin action is considered in this perspective. The effects of the thyroid and it...

The effect of plant hormones on the growth of lichen-forming fungi (LFF) was evaluated. The use of 2,3,5-triiodobenzoic acid and indole-3-butyric acid resulted in a 99% and 57% increase in dry weight of the lichen-forming fungus Nephromopsis ornata. The results suggest that some plant hormones can be used as inducers or stimulators of LFF growth for large-scale culture.

Plant growth regulator’s plays a very important role in Kinnow production. There are different type of PGR’s that includes GA3, NAA, CPPU and Ethyl which when applied on kinnow performs well give good results such as high quality, yield long shelf life the fruit. regulators (PGRs) known for having significant impact fruit retention. hormones involved physiological functions, developmental aspec...

To summarize the maintenance of homeostasis in our body terms signal transduction, there are two major axes: autonomic nervous system and hormones. The system, one peripheral nerves, secretes neurotransmitters such as norepinephrine acetylcholine to affect target organs quickly efficiently. Hormones can be viewed signals that trigger larger changes DNA level after they secreted into blood reach...

A plethora of hormones regulate many of the body’s functions, including growth and development, metabolism, electrolyte balances, and reproduction. Numerous glands throughout the body produce hormones. The hypothalamus produces several releasing and inhibiting hormones that act on the pituitary gland, stimulating the release of pituitary hormones. Of the pituitary hormones, several act on other...

It has been postulated that pubertal hormones may drive some neuroanatomical changes during adolescence, and may do so differently in girls and boys. Here, we use growth curve modeling to directly assess how sex hormones [testosterone (T) and estradiol (E₂)] relate to changes in subcortical brain volumes utilizing a longitudinal design. 126 adolescents (63 girls), ages 10 to 14, were imaged and...

Ovine chorionic somatomammotropin (oCS) enhances the weight and bone growth of hypophysectomized rats. It acts as a bifunctional hormone, since it binds both to lactogenic and somatotropic receptors. Ovine foetus weight gain is closely related to oCS and oGH serum levels. oCS is able to stimulate somatomedins by foetal liver. Moreover, oCS specific receptors are present in some foetal tissues. ...

Growth of multicellular organisms depends on maintenance of proper balance between proliferation and differentiation. Any disturbance in this balance in animal cells can lead to cancer. Experimental evidence is provided to conclude with special reference to the action of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) on Sertoli cells, and luteinizing hormone (LH) on Leydig cells that these hormones exert a...

The transfer of non-genetic resources from mother to the offspring often has considerable consequences for offspring performance. In birds, maternally derived hormones are known to influence a variety of morphological, physiological and behavioural traits in the chick. So far, the range of these hormonal effects involves benefits in terms of enhanced growth and competitive ability as well as co...

Plants are sessile organisms and therefore they must adapt their growth and architecture to a changing environment. Understanding how hormones and genes interact to coordinate plant growth in a changing environment is a major challenge in developmental biology. Although a localized auxin concentration maximum in the root tip is important for root development, auxin concentration cannot change i...
