An AUX information assisted HEVC is described in this paper. This new functionality provides a tool for HEVC to determine the quantization parameter of CU based on auxiliary input. In this report, a saliency based auxiliary input is employed as a proof-of-concept. As shown in our subjective tests, the new tool achieves up to 12% bit rate reduction with negligible perceptual quality loss.

We present a review of our latest work on UniTravelling Carrier Photodiodes for high efficiency THz emission. The detectors’ waveguide structure allows for both higher responsivity and saturation power thus achieving the highest published THz figure of merit (PTHz/Popt ) up to 1.5 THz for such devices. We also discuss new material development using solid source MBE and the possibility of monoli...

The Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) relies heavily on data communications systems to link eld equipment such as traac sensors, changeable message signs and incident response vehicles with traac operations centers. This paper has two main purposes. The rst is to present a review of data communications concepts essential in the design of wireless modems for the ITS 220 MHz spectral alloca...

We are developing a novel high-efficiency, high-temperature steam electrolyzer. Although water or steam electrolysis is well known to be one of the cleanest ways to produce hydrogen, widespread utilization is hindered by high operational costs because of high electricity consumption. To decrease the electrical power input requirements in electrolysis, our approach uses natural gas as an anode d...

A novel steam electrolyzer has been developed. In conventional electrolyzers, oxygen produced from electrolysis is usually released in the air stream. In our novel design, natural gas is used to replace air in order to reduce the chemical potential difference across the electrolyzer, thus minimizing the electrical consumption. The oxygen from the electrolysis is consumed in either a total oxida...
