This study develops a new theory of long-term retrograde amnesia that encompasses episodic and semantic memory, including word knowledge. Under the theory, retrograde amnesia in both normal individuals and hippocampal amnesics reflects transmission deficits caused by aging, nonrecent use of connections, and infrequent use of connections over the life span. However, transmission deficits cause s...

with speed increasing in high-speed trains, due to limitations of other types of brakes, aerodynamic brake has become an important braking method. in this task to make better use of brake’s panel different configurations are examined and the best panel shape which provides the reasonable drag coefficient is introduced. the results of simulations are carried out with the computational fluid dyna...

in this paper, gaussian and elliptic high pass filters are analyzed for image sharpening qualitatively and quantatively . the filters are implemented in frequency domain using matlab software. experiments are performed to compare the performance of both the filters ,processed images are presented. the results demonstrate that elliptic yields better results.

Seoul Korean is currently undergoing a tonogenetic sound change wherein the traditional consonantal VOT cue has been replaced by the previously intrinsic f0 of the following vowel. This study makes use of a recently available apparent-time corpus of speech to examine how this change has unfolded across the lexicon. In particular, we examine the effect of word frequency to determine whether the ...

Preview benefits (PBs) from two words to the right of the fixated one (i.e., word N + 2) and associated parafoveal-on-foveal effects are critical for proposals of distributed lexical processing during reading. This experiment examined parafoveal processing during reading of Chinese sentences, using a boundary manipulation of N + 2-word preview with low- and high-frequency words N + 1. The main ...

Despite considerable research interest, it is still an open issue as to how morphologically complex words such as "car+s" are represented and processed in the brain. We studied the neural correlates of the processing of inflected nouns in the morphologically rich Finnish language. Previous behavioral studies in Finnish have yielded a robust inflectional processing cost, i.e., inflected words ar...

BACKGROUND Previous research has shown that various memory errors reflecting failure in the self-monitoring of speech were associated with auditory/verbal hallucinations in schizophrenia patients and with proneness to hallucinations in non-clinical individuals. METHOD We administered to 57 schizophrenia patients and 60 healthy participants a verbal memory task involving free recall and recogn...

OBJECTIVE To investigate whether language used in science abstracts can skew towards the use of strikingly positive and negative words over time. DESIGN Retrospective analysis of all scientific abstracts in PubMed between 1974 and 2014. METHODS The yearly frequencies of positive, negative, and neutral words (25 preselected words in each category), plus 100 randomly selected words were norma...

in the past decades, we have witnessed a renascence of interest in vocabulary assessment (bachman, 2000). however, most researchers have focused on testing breadth rather than depth of vocabulary or receptive-productive dimensions of vocabulary knowledge (read, 2000; nation, 2001; wesche & paribahkt, 1996). the present research investigates the predicting variables of vocabulary knowledge acros...
