Highly organized mesoporous silica monoliths were reproducibly prepared by nanocasting mixtures of fluorinated nonionic surfactants and micelles of two hydrocarbon block copolymers. It is the special feature of this fluorocarbon/hydrocarbon template mixture that they form not mixed micelles but individual micelles instead. By careful analysis of the pore architectures by gas sorption measuremen...

Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) include lipophilic legacy POPs and the amphiphilic perfluorinated alkyl acids (PFAAs). They have long half-lives and bioaccumulate in the environment, animals and human beings. POPs possess toxic, carcinogenic and endocrine-disrupting potentials. Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are compounds that either mimic or block endogenous hormones and thus disru...

Biodegradation of a model mixture of hydrocarbon (dodecane and hexadecane, 1:1 w/w), as well as hydrocarbon emulsified by synthetic and natural emulsifiers, and their mixtures were analyzed in the presence of Pseudomonas spp. and Bacillus spp. bacterial strains. Changes in surface tension were measured by the static and dynamic methods during biodegradation processes. During the biodegradation ...

Ultrasonic velocity data on hydrocarbon mixtures was shown by Wang and Nur JASA 89, 2725 (1991)] to agree quite well with the predictions of a simple mixing rule (volume average of velocity). The same data is reanalyzed using Wood's formula and the time average approximation. Wood's formula for acoustic velocity is shown to be always less than the time average formula, which is itself always le...

In this study, artificial neural network was used to predict the surface tension of 20 hydrocarbon mixtures. Experimental data was divided into two parts (70% for training and 30% for testing). Optimal configuration of the network was obtained with minimization of prediction error on testing data. The accuracy of our proposed model was compared with four well-known empirical equations. The arti...

Exceptional high quality ZIF-8 membranes prepared through a novel seeded growth method in aqueous solutions at near room temperature exhibit excellent separation performance for C2/C3 hydrocarbon mixtures. The separation factors for mixtures of ethane/propane, ethylene/propylene and ethylene/propane are ∼80, ∼10 and ∼167, respectively.
