Currently, platinum-based electrocatalysts show the best performance for hydrogen evolution. All hydrogen evolution reaction catalysts should however obey Sabatier's principle, that is, the adsorption energy of hydrogen to the catalyst surface should be neither too high nor too low to balance between hydrogen adsorption and desorption. To overcome the limitation of this principle, here we choos...
Hydrogen Evolution In article number 2204797, Hyeyoung Shin, Jun Young Lee, Jung Kyu Kim, and co-workers discover heteronuclei-mediated in situ growth of Ni2P nanospheres on a defect-engineered Ti3C2Tx MXene induces interfacial strain which leads to charge redistribution transfer, boosting the electrochemical hydrogen evolution reaction.
The electroreduction of water for sustainable hydrogen production is a critical component of several developing clean-energy technologies, such as water splitting and fuel cells. However, finding a cheap and efficient alternative catalyst to replace currently used platinum-based catalysts is still a prerequisite for the commercialization of these technologies. Here we report a robust and highly...
Transition metal quantum dots composites for an electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction.
Photosystem I (PSI) from plants, algae, and cyanobacteria has been shown to mediate hydrogen evolution both in vivo and in vitro. We observed that metallic platinum could be photo-precipitated at the reducing end of PSI according to the reaction, [PtCl6] + 4e + hν ⇒ Pt⇓ + 6Cl. This platinum nanocluster can then receive the photo-generated electrons from PSI and function as a nanocatalyst for th...
The layered ternary chalcogenide, palladium phosphorous sulphide (PdPS), and its composite with reduced graphene oxide are shown to be efficient hydrogen evolution electrocatalysts. The Tafel slope and the exchange current density values associated with hydrogen evolution reaction are determined to be 46 mV dec(-1) and 1.4 × 10(-4) A cm(-2) respectively.
