We study a Riemann problem for the two-dimensional isentropic gas dynamics equations which models transonic regular reflection. When written in self-similar coordinates, the system changes type from hyperbolic to mixed hyperbolic-elliptic. Using the theory of one-dimensional hyperbolic conservation laws, we formulate a free boundary problem in the subsonic region and we outline the main ideas f...
This paper describes a very general absorbing layer model for hyperbolic-parabolic systems of partial differential equations. For linear systems with constant coefficients it is shown that the model possesses the perfect matching property, i.e., it is a perfectly matched layer (PML). The model is applied to two linear systems: a linear wave equation with a viscous damping term and the linearize...

The present paper focuses on numerical study for an inclined magneto-hydrodynamic effect on free convection flow of a tangent hyperbolic nanofluid embedded with Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) over a stretching surface taking velocity and thermal slip into account. Two types of nanoparticles are considered for the study; they are single and multi-walled nanotubes. The presentation of single-parameter g...
We develop a level set method for the computation of multivalued solutions to quasi-linear hyperbolic partial differential equations and Hamilton-Jacobi equations in any number of space dimensions. We use the classic idea of Courant and Hilbert to define the solution of the quasi-linear hyperbolic PDEs or the gradient of the solution to the Hamilton-Jacobi equations as zero level sets of level ...
Differential constraints are used as a means of developing a systematic method for finding exact solutions to quasilinear nonautonomous hyperbolic systems of first-order partial differential equations (PDEs) involving two independent variables. The leading assumption of the hyperbolicity of the basic system together with a strict compatibility argument permits characterization of the most gener...
In this paper, a central discontinuous Galerkin method is proposed to solve for the viscosity solutions of Hamilton-Jacobi equations. Central discontinuous Galerkin methods were originally introduced for hyperbolic conservation laws. They combine the central scheme and the discontinuous Galerkin method and therefore carry many features of both methods. Since Hamilton-Jacobi equations in general...
We study the Whitham equations for all the higher order KdV equations. The Whitham equations are neither strictly hyperbolic nor genuinely nonlinear. We are interested in the solution of the Whitham equations when the initial values are given by a step function.
We have presented a new hyperbolic auxiliary function method for obtaining traveling wave solutions of nonlinear partial differential equations. Applying this, exact traveling wave solutions for the coupled Sine-Gordon equations are constructed.
We show how to use variational methods to prove two diierent results: Existence of periodic solutions with irrational periods of some hyperbolic equations in one dimension and existence of spatially quasi-periodic solutions of some elliptic equations .
