Many researches point out that intervertebral pressure and transformation are key parameters for evaluating intervertebral disc degeneration. Aiming at avoiding the damage caused by direct and indirect measuring methods, this research proposes a cylindroid hypothesis and measuring method, which can monitor the strain condition of the intervertebral disc in vivo and real-time without being damaged.
Despite the high prevalence of intervertebral disc disease, little is known about changes in intervertebral disc cells and their regenerative potential with ageing and intervertebral disc degeneration. Here we identify populations of progenitor cells that are Tie2 positive (Tie2+) and disialoganglioside 2 positive (GD2+), in the nucleus pulposus from mice and humans. These cells form spheroid c...
The avascular nature of the human intervertebral disc is thought to reduce the ability of resident disc cells to maintain their extracellular matrix, rendering the tissue susceptible to degeneration. It has also been suggested that the lack of a blood supply may result in disc cell death via nutrient deprivation. Therefore transplanting new cells into the disc to promote tissue regeneration wou...
PURPOSE To quantify the delayed contrast agent enhancement in the nucleus pulposus of the intervertebral disc by means by T1 relaxation time measurements, and to correlate the enhancement with visual grading of disc degeneration. Diffusion of nutrients through the endplate is a key factor in tissue viability in the intervertebral disc. It can be simulated in vivo using magnetic resonance imagin...
Intervertebral disc degeneration is a major health problem of close concern to both young and old. The also growing as the global population ages. defined progressive changes affecting spine component natural aging under effect multiple factors (such smoking, obesity, incorrect exercise). For solution be found, experimental must first induced, causes disease identified, early diagnostic therape...
The intervertebral disc is an important mechanical structure that allows range of motion of the spinal column. Degeneration of the intervertebral disc--incited by aging, traumatic insult, genetic predisposition, or other factors--is often defined by functional and structural changes in the tissue, including excessive breakdown of the extracellular matrix, increased disc cell senescence and deat...
Intervertebral disc degeneration is widely recognized as a cause of lower back pain, neurological dysfunction and other musculoskeletal disorders. The major inflammatory cytokine IL-1β is associated with intervertebral disc degeneration; however, the molecular mechanisms that drive IL-1β production in the intervertebral disc, especially in nucleus pulposus (NP) cells, are unknown. In some tissu...
AIM Exploring the relationship between two polymorphisms (MMP-1-755 T/G [rs498186] and MMP-3 A/C [rs632478]) and disc degeneration. MATERIAL AND METHODS We performed a case-control study on 130 cases with intervertebral disc degeneration confirmed by Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and 210 healthy individuals. Schneiderman criterion was used to determine the severity of the disc degeneration...
