Abstract Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) hydrogels are one of the most commonly studied thermoresponsive biomaterials. In this work, we investigate ball milling as a method producing PNIPAM nanogels and confirm that temperature responsiveness is maintained in nanogel form based on hydrodynamic diameter zeta potential measurements.

A solid-phase extraction absorbent material based on poly (N-isopropylacrylamide-comethacrylic acidco-ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) [poly (NIPAAm-MAA-co-EDMA)] monolithic column was developed for the simultaneous determination of nitrendipine and nisoldipine from human urine. The morphology of monolithic column and pressure drop across the columns were characterized. The results showed excell...

Lipase-modified pH-responsive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)-based microgels were synthesized. An optical device was subsequently fabricated by sandwiching the enzyme loaded responsive microgels between two thin Au layers, and their response to triolein, a model triglyceride, was investigated. The device's response depended on the triglyceride concentration, demonstrating its potential application...

Disulfide linkages were introduced into poly (N-isopropylacrylamide) by the polycondensation of a RAFT-derived, telechelic macromonomer to give degradable yet vinyl-based polymers. These polymers displayed a redox-sensitive lower critical solution temperature (LCST) with the shorter, degraded product displaying a higher LCST than its non-degraded counterpart.

A crosslinked poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) ionogel encapsulating an ionic liquid exhibits improved transmittance properties, enhanced water uptake/release, greater thermal actuation behaviour and distinct solvatomorphology over its hydrogel equivalent. It was also found that the rate of release of fluorescein pre-loaded into membranes was considerably enhanced for ionogels compared to equivalent...

A 3D microvascularized gelatin hydrogel is produced using thermoresponsive sacrificial poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) microfibers. The capillary-like microvascular network allows constant perfusion of media throughout the thick hydrogel, and significantly improves the viability of human neonatal dermal fibroblasts encapsulated within the gel at a high density.

Based on non-linear response in phase transition events exhibiting a sharp transmittance change, an intelligent chiral sensor capable of chirality amplification in aqueous media was designed and constructed as poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) having chiral pseudo-18-crown-6. Both sensitivity and selectivity of the sensor surmount the limitation due to the law of mass action.

A smart and reversible chemo-mechanical switch was developed by synthesis of a thermally responsive block copolymer brush poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co-hexafluoroisopropyl acrylate) (P(NIPAAm-co-HFIPA)) on a capillary plate. With the temperature changing around lower critical solution temperature (LCST), the designed chemo-mechanical switch exhibited excellent "ON-OFF" behavior for water transp...

A thermo- and light-responsive system consisting of single-walled carbon nanotube and helical polysaccharide modified with poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) side-chains has been developed through supramolecular polymer wrapping. Coagulation of the complex can be induced by the external stimuli, which leads to a catch-and-release action of a porphyrin derivative.

The cloud point of copolymers of 2-ethyl-2-oxazoline and 2-n-propyl-2-oxazoline could be tuned from 25 degrees C to 100 degrees C by varying molecular weight and composition; the reversibility and concentration dependence of the cloud points were evaluated to assess the potential of these copoly(2-oxazoline)s as alternatives to poly(N-isopropylacrylamide).
