The title compound, C(7)H(5)Cl(2)NO(2), crystallizes with two independent mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit. The bond lengths and angles in both mol-ecules are within normal ranges. In the crystal structure, weak inter-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into layers parallel to the [010] plane.
